I think he is out of his MIND

Hi all, We are planning on moving to the new place soon...

here is the problem, we have 12 cats and 3 pregnant right now...we live in the country and poeple keep abandoning their animals...we feel sorry for these unhomed pets, but we can't keep them all.

well the new place has at least 5 cats already and I told hubby we could take OUR 3 fixed cats and that was all...

Now he is heartbroken because he wants to keep the abandoned ones as well...

Please tell me he is out of his mind, we could have 30 cats in no time...

What can we do with them? There is NO animal control here...and I don't want to dump them on someone else

Also the cost of feeding them has soared and we still have mice as he feeds them too much.

I don't want to be an old person with 100 cats???

Maybe I am crazy

I've got nothing.
And I don't think you are crazy for wanting to not have more cats than hairs on your head.

I don't know, but I can take them 70 miles away and they will take them for 15.00 each...I have ttied getting them homes, seems alot of people are trying to dispose of animals...

And whoever said, take them out in the country...farmers need cats to keep the mice away???

I just can't stand they have been dumped, but I cannot live with that many cats...

P.s. we have had 5 or 7 dogs dropped out here too, and if you call the sheriff or anyone they shoot them on the spot and you have to dispose of them, I found out the hard way when the unfriendly pooch went after my son.

you will have a lot more than 30 cats - but wherever you leave the problem of 12 cats will also have that problem

wish there was cheap easy sterilization for the cats

You CAN find vets that will spay cats while pregnant. If he wants to keep them tell him they have to be fixed first.

Up here we can get cats spayed for $20 even if they ARE pregnant...but you need to be 'in the loop' to get that price. Regular people pay $40.

UGH!!!! That is terrible! I can get a very large dog spayed for $120.

I like to find the vets who are a little rough around the edges, but still very good. I got my 200lb St. Bernard neutered in the back of a truck for $40. Everything was clean, the dog was knocked out and all went well.

The cheapest price around here for dogs (smaller) is 175.00 and cats are well over 100.00. I would take a couple of yours for my mice if I could get them fixed for a better price!!!!! That and if you were closer.

No advice for you - sorry.

I know exactly how you feel.
I am at wits end, feral kitty's found me, & they wont quite breeding, I just got blessed with 4 more kittens.
I don't want to kill them, & i have looked into options for giving them away, yet it seems no-one wants wild unfixed cats, & the pound says there only option is to kill them.

On the bright side we no longer have mouses, on the dark side, my food bill has gone way up.

I gotta figure something out, they aren't easy to catch either, but show up at feeding time twice a day.

I know most of them & their different personality's & have bonded to a certain extent. I just can't take them to the pound

Contact the closest shelter and ask about low cost sterilization. Our shelter here has a "Cat Mobile" and they move from location to location. You drop the cat off in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon.

Spay/fix plus rabies and all other necessary vaccinations = $10.

Caring people do not keep more animals than what they can truly take care of. I would suggest you assert yourself with hubby and tell him you need care too! If he wants all those cats, let him know he can only have the ones he nuters/spades and can feed and protect! There simply comes a time when one has to put a foot down and say "enough is enough"!

I haven't run across too many Cat Gentlemen before... we all've read about Cat Ladies.

Seeing as I have absolutely nothing positive or constructive to say about a cat person, who just happens to be a male, with way too many cats, I'll say nothing at all....

well, I lied... will give some advice... get a dog... one for each cat... preferably bigger and hungrier than the cats...

If you are going to live in the country, theres nothing wrong with having cats. The problem is in the feeding of said cats. Stop feeding the cats!, they are perfectly capable of feeding themselves in a country setting. If not they are useless parasites and someone in the family needs a backbone, a 22, and a few rounds of ammo to prevent the lazy cats from slowly starving (a very unlikely scenario knowing cats the way I do).

My BIL has 18 cats at his place. I got one and he is a fixed 10 year old. My BIL cats seem to grow in number and then fall off??? Naturally cause they wander off into the woods and who knows what they get into or what thinks they are tasty. There are very few snakes and we have quite a few in our area. My BIL feeds very little to them. Good fortune in your decision.
