FINALLY a goldfinch!

A month or two ago Dh and I put up one of those fancy bird feeders, the tube kind with small perches, to attract small birds. All we had been getting before was a daily flock of pigeons and a few red wing blackbirds who aren't afraid of no fat greedy pigeons. Not even the dark eyed juncos came this year! (The pigeons are nice, though. Beautiful, irridescent, plump and wild, not city dwelling pigeons that look like ragged diseased flying rats)

I was about to give up on it when this morning, dh said "FF! Come here quick!" Perched on our fancy bird feeder full of thistle seeds was a beautiful male goldfinch! About 10 minutes later, he brought his lady friend for brunch.

Maybe they'll bring a few friends? So glad it's not hanging there anymore screaming "waste of money! waste of money!" at me.

They sure took long enough.

If you build it they will come...... And bring all their friends and family. And next day they'll be there saying, "Refill, refill...." But if you're lucky, you will get some red ones, too. But it's fun, eh?

I was trying to get the woodpeckers to attend brunch at my feeders. Almost 2 months went by before I saw one. Plenty of cardinals, bluejays, grossbeaks. I could HEAR the woodpeckers..but....and then there was one! A couple of days later there were 2, and then 4...and then a different type

Congratulations on your Finch! They're such lovely birds

Mr and Lady Godfinch brought about a dozen of their friends back this afternoon. All but the one mister were females or non breeding males. Mr. Godfinch was the only yellow fancy pants. I expect that will change as the season progresses.

We got a few sparrows to.

It was pretty neat. At one point, the feeder was virtually swarmed with finches flying all around. It was pretty funny. All spring nothing. Then today we were practically infested with finches.

We've tried putting up a bird feeder a couple of times. Sometimes we get some interesting birds, but usually the grackles show up and chase every other kind of bird away. Grackles are ugly, noisy, and messy. So we've quit putting up bird feeders.

I have the same problem! I hate those birds. What I do now instead is put a suet feeder with a wire bottom so the suet hands upside down. The grackels can't feed this way.

FeralFemale enjoy your finches they really are pretty.
