Be careful

Just got done spending 2 hours clearing the road beside my laneway. My cousin came over this afternoon to borrow our no-till drill, brought his year old 6420 which is too small to pull it in the field but should be fine when it's empty on the road. As he was pulling out onto the road, he wound it right up into road gear (it has the fast transmission on it so over 30 mph) before he even got it straightened out, drill overcorrected, jacknifed the tractor, drove it over on its side then tried to climb over the tractor before everything stopped. He got out ok, somehow it stayed right in the centre of the road as it slid down the hill between a deep (10') ditch on one side and a pond on the other side or he'd probably be gone too. So I took my loader, got the drill off the tractor and out of the way and we got what's left of the tractor flipped back up before it lost enough diesel to get to the pond. Now the fire dep't has the spill cleaned up, environment ministry's cleared it, police have done their bit, ministry of labour is doing their paperwork and he's gone to the hospital to get his back and head checked out but he should be home in the morning. Tractor looks to be pretty well toast, the cab just about collapsed. Drill isn't scratched.

Think next time he'll slow it down a bit but he's going to go home in one piece to a 3 year old, 1 year old, and one on the way.

Ouch!
Thank goodness he's alive. Sounds like he was very very lucky.
My mom lost her brother when he was only 16, in a tractor accident. She's never really gotten over it... Even being ultra cautious, you just never know when the next accident is waiting to happen.

So glad he's ok. I bet he gave the wife and kids extra hugs when he got home.

We had a farmer who stepped out of his tractor and left it running while he saw to the discs and ended up being chopped into a thousand tiny pieces by those discs and spread all over his field.

after flipping a tractor 35 years ago, have been very safety conscious since! glad he was not hurt bad, iron you can replace! any driver i have trained becomes a worry for me wondering what i or they have forgotten. biggest beef with the drivers is not staying on the traveled portion of the road, shoulder can give way awful quick!

someone had a riding lawnmower flip on top of them and catch on fire this week somewhere ...it was in the news..some passer by saved him..he was on an unlevel ditch mowing..

2 years ago my husband ..attempting to mow pond edges at MIL's house we were flipping..flipped his rider into the pond..had to pull it out with the tractor after buggering up his back and ribs..

he has an excuses..mental disabaility from head injury..so i'll let it pass..(and yes I have accidental death and dismemberment ins on him..have to have..he is very accident prone)

I have noticed the only things you get faster when you hurry, are accidents and problems. Those road speed trannies are nothing but trouble in my book. Its asking alot to slow a few tonnes with hydraulics.
