Blood pressure , Which reader is best ?

..............I'm looking for recommendation(s) on blood pressure readers . I'll be driving into Wal mart so thought I'd ask for those who already use one of these readers , at home too make a recommendation . , thanks ., fordy

I will tell you that the arm cuffs are WAY better than the wrist ones. If you can find a person/hospital/auxilliary that does free BP clinics manually than go for that. And just remember a consistently high BP is worth concern, and in general one high bp is not to worry. Good luck!

Arm ones for sure NOT the wrist ones I can attest to that.
The brand I have is "ReliOn Model # 7100rel.
And it is pretty dern close to those that are used on you at the hospital. As yesterday I had mine checked at the clinic and it was very very close to what I had checked at home before going in.

the cuff size is important too. Get the right sized cuff that fits the exact model you use.

Ours is a OMRON HEM-780 & we got it way cheaper than wally on ebay.

We have two Omron's a wrist one and one for upper arm and have been very happy with them.

A recent study showed wrist cuffs are not accurate- please get an arm one. Dunno what brand is best. Be sure the cuff fits your ARM- no offense fordy since I dunno what you weigh or how much padding you carry but for all of us- if the cuff is too small for your arm it will give an inflated (higher than real) reading and worry you needlessly (or get you in trouble upping your BP meds when that is not needed). If you need a large extra large or even a thigh cuff to fit properly, get one. Now those folks whose arms are thick in one spot and thing an inch later I never know what to do- use the big cuff but try to put it on evenly not diagonally!

One other tip- once you have it, please check if it is accurate against your Dr's or the Walmart machine- take your meter into the office/ store, check your arm on your cuff, then recheck same arm om their cuff (if really different redo it on yours) and see if the numbers are within 10 or less of each other. If not, get a new meter.

BTW - don't necessarily go by Wally worlds readings. Kids play on the machines all the time and the calibration is usually off and I think they told my Mom they only recalibrate once a month.

I was on Lisinopril but the side effects were so severe I had to get off (its a snake venom) and I now try to control it with diet and exercise. I use an OMRON HEM-704C and its much more accurate than anything else I have found and I keep a weekly log of my BP for tracking.

I would not use anything in WALMART or any other store to calibrate your BP machine; those free BP readers are set to read high for liability reasons and your best bet is to get it calibrated at a state certified medical equipment shop or by the manufacturer.

I use those BP machines at the local China Mart. Usually my blood pressure reads sky high. Usually high at the doc because they always seem to use too small of a cuff for my arm. Once I had a doc make me check my blood pressure for a couple of weeks. The thing read something like 90 over 180 or something like that. Went down to the nurse and that was my first clue that not all cuffs are the same size. Big difference between using the standard cuff and the right one for my arm. Blood pressure read normal using the right one.

Mine is a cuff digital BP monitor that allows for the applied pressure to be adjusted from 150 to 240. The brand is AND and model number is UA-767. It's very accurate.

I have a wrist cuff, checked against my doctor's EVERY office visit. Has been very accurate.

.................Well , I purchased an Omron cuff monitor and my bp's have all been lower than what the , one , reading was at the dentist office . The dentist Bp was 150\80 , but all mine have been 129\78 , 135\76 , 131\75 , etc . So things aren't as bad as I thought . , fordy

The best ones come with a stethescope. With the auto read ones, you have to rely on them to accurately "hear" the pulse, and a lot of things can affect how well they do that. If it isn't getting a good reading, you won't know it. With the manual ones, which are easy to learn to use, you know immediately if you're not doing it right.

I used the one at WalMart while I was there a few days ago, and it read 138/77. When I got home, I checked it on mine and it was 148/100. Definitely NEVER trust the store machines.

And os what if they are made in China lots of other good things are as well. As companies look for making more dollars on there investment.
