Ants!!!!!!!
We haven't had a problem with ants or any bugs in the house till now. We have a small clock radio setting on a window sill in the bedroom and yesterday I noticed a couple ants carrying what looks like a small egg around the radio. I watched them and they were coming out of the radio and going into a crack on the window sill. I didn't think much about it until I picked up the radio and shook it. WOW, eggs fell out in a big pile and hundreds of ants swarmed out. I took the radio outside and took the bottom of and the radio was solid full of eggs and ants. There was enough to fill a coffee mug. Anyone ever seen anything like this?

Ack! Well, so long for the radio, huh? I'd wipe down the area w/orange oil, may have to do it a few times but they'll be gone.

i couldn't tell by looking, but are they carpenter ants or some other type of ant? carpenter ants need wet wood to feast on, but other ants may take syrup and borax as bait. they will feast on it an die. they will even carry it back to the queen and she will die. i have gotten rid of ants with borax by mixing it with whatever syrup i had on hand...sugar, table syrup or pancake syrup. it really works.
carpenter ants are another issue altogether.

ACK!!!!!!!!! back in the day when diazinon was legal, ONE time around the foundation kept ants out all summer. again..I also hate chemicals, but I hated ants in the house more. now I sprinkle Seven around the foundation, and have had good results. still a major chemical, but I did a lot of 'natural' kinds of things first. one was salt..regular table salt..spread anywhere you see the ant trail. it was 'ok'...just not exactly ok enough for me. borax is amazing for sooooo many pests, so that's probably the first option to try. (oddly...I can't find borax ANYWHERE..go figure!)
suddenly I don't want rice with dinner. LOL!

I've had great success with Terro liquid ant bait in the house and in the greenhouse. It's completely contained in a plastic thing and watering over it won't dilute it. For outdoors, I use Borax and suger with a few drops of water to make a past. They both take about 24 hours to work.

that's disgusting.
I've seen those out in the garden.
We get ants in our house pretty bad, they are driving me crazy.
I am definitely going to try the borax and syrup idea!!!
I wonder if it will work on fruit flies too?? They are really bad right now.

I had that happen once to an answering machine we had sitting in a windowsill! Yes, the answering machine was trashed!

Grits are a food item that people (especially in the South) eat. So, Yes, it is safe to use.

I put the syrup and borax on the counter and they ignored it, then I found a trail of aunts leading to the jars of honey on top of the fridge...... so I mixed the borax in with a little honey, and they are falling for it like crazy....
but.. how long does it take to kill them??
I like immediate results...

Do you cook them first or just leave them out for the ants? So far I have tried honey and borax in a tuperware container. This is not working so far. I think either the container is too big or it's because the honey congealed.
