Orioles at the Hummingbird Feeders

They started showing up late last Summer,
They are back this year. I think it's 2 or 3 pairs.
They meddled around the Hummingbird Feeders.
I noticed yesterday that one of the little yellow plastic flowers was missing,
from a feeder. And they were sitting right there sucking up that Sugar water.
I don't know if they took it off or what.
So I went out and took a couple more of the plastic flowers off a couple more feeders.
They were out there off & on, for awhile yesterday afternoon.
Do you think they will hang around? Or are they maybe just passing through?
Has anyone else had experience with Orioles at the Hummingbird Feeders??

I have DSW stopping at Wild Birds Unlimited on her way Home,to get me an Oriole Feeder.
I hope it works. That's just pretty cool.

If you buy some cheap grape jelly and put it into a half of orange peel (after birds have eaten the pulp) The Orioles will hang around a bit longer. They love the jelly.

Orioles don't seem to scared of human in the spring. I've seen people put a orange on a stake and be only a few feet away taking photos.

We have a nesting pair or two around here every summer. They don't really like my feeders, neither do the hummers, probably something in the water. Anyway, they do like the trumpet vine. I see them eating the trumpets off the flowers so they can get the nectar. We usually don't see them after they stake out their territory. I have heard them calling and occasionally see the young ones in late summer.

We took a baby food jar, wrapped wire around the neck of the jar and hung it from one of our feeder poles and keep it full of cheap grape jelly. They love it.We have done this for years. The orioles have not returned yet this year, neither have the barn swallows. They usually show about the first of may.I love them both.I can't say the same for these blasted black birds.

Oh, I haven't seen any orioles yet but we usually have a few pairs. We feed them orange slices but I haven't tried the grape jelly yet. I might pick some up this evening. I would love to find a nest to show the kids.

Orange halves........

I'm going to put out a couple orange halves later.
But, for now they are pretty content sucking the sugar juice out of the Hummingbird Feeders. And, the hummingbirds don't seem to be bothered by them. They are also eating the blossoms on the buckeye tree that's out in full bloom. That must have been what drew them in.
Who'da thought?
