what to use old pine logs and stumps

Hi there!!! I am feeling the regeneration spring brings to us, time to get planting!!!
Our place is on the side of a steep hill of which the previous owner knocked down all the pines . We salvaged enough to build a real log cabin shed and have used some as landscape timbers, but there a is still lots left. I really don't want to burn that is for sure and would love to have it for mulch since previous owner also left no topsoil. The hill is very steep also and worry about large trucks going down it. we do have a small shredder but it isn't able to do the big stuff. Any suggestions?
