travel plans uggestions please

that was suppose to be
travel plans suggestions please LOL

I will be taking my mom up to Philadelphia sometime in the next few weeks.
I would like to stop by places where I can learn more about homesteading. Amish general stores, farm tours, home style food.......maybe pick up some turkey hatching eggs, fiber, bottle goat or Tunis lamb, spinning wheel, hand held milker, or what I find on the way back
Any suggestions on places?

There is an 'Amish Farm' tour east of Lancaster on Rt 30 that used to do a decient job of describing an Amish farmstead though it is a 'tourist trap' it was still interesting. I would sugest contacting the Lancaster County extension office for info on farmer's markets, etc.

Route 30 is a traffic nightmare though the 'all you can eat' places used to have good food.

If you come west on the PA turnpike to the Downingtown exit & take Rt 100 south a short way to Rt 113 south to the Rt 30 bypass west a few exits later you can get onto PA Rt 340 west; a two lane highway that goes just north of Coatesville and then paralells Rt 30 all the way to Lancaster and goes thru Bird-in-hand & Intercouse thru alot of the Amish & Mennonite farms intertwined w/ alot of the English businesses. Instead of dodging NY tourists, you will be going around buggies & horse carts and at dusk you will notice the gas lamp light VRS electric lights though Saturday nights the kids dating in their buggies makes for real chalenging driving.

Do you want a new spinning wheel? The Mannings in East Berlin is the place to go. It's about an hour west of Lancaster. You can try different wheels there to see which one you like best! I've not been there yet, but am planning on going soon...

And Root's is a farmer's market in Manheim is a great place to hang out! http://www.rootsmarket.com/
