my head hurts
This is a 5th grade math problem.

There are 7 girls in a bus. Each girl has 7 backpacks. In each backpack,
there are 7 big cats. For every big cat, there are 7 little cats.

The bus driver is not in the bus at this time.

Question:
How many legs are there in the bus?

238 legs on the bus; 2 x 7 = 14; 7x4=28; 7x7x4=196; 14+28+196=238

There are 7 girls 343 big cats(7 backpacks x 7 cats in each x7 ) 2401 little cats (343 big cats x7), so 10976 cats legs (2744 x4) + 14 little girl legs = 10990 legs

ooops hold up refigure: so there are 8 cats per back pack which equals 200 legs x 7 = 1400+ oh nevermind I understand the headache....

Girls 7 X 2 legs = 14 legs
7 girls X 7 backpacks X 7 big cats X 7 little cats X 4 legs = 9604 legs + 14 girl legs = 9618

That's my figure and I'm sticking to it!

ok so there are 224 + 2 legs perbackpack?so 226x 7 = 1582 or 7 girls x 2 = 14+ 7 big cats x 4 x7=196 + 7x7x4x7=1372 = 1582

why would the girls have 7 backpacks each filled with one BIG cat and 7 little cats be concerned about how many legs were in each bag. wouldn't a bigger concern be all the fighting, scratching and poo-ing those cats in those bags would do and how would the girls carry 7 cat filled bags on a bus.
no wonder the bus driver left, I'd have a headache too

stargazer, 9604 is only the legs for the little cats. You have to add back in the legs for the big cats.

JIL, there are 49 cats per backpack.

The answer is 10990.

Answer--dont look if you want to figure it on your own!
I got this the first time and it told me i was wrong.....So i second guessed myself...and came up with all the numbers everyone else did, LOL



ANSWER - 10990

7 Girls = 14 legs
7 packpacks * 7 girls = 49 back packs

Per Back Pack is
7 cats (Big) = 28 legs
49 cats (Little) = 196 legs

SO....224 legs per back pack

49 backpacks * 224 legs = 10976 legs
7 girls * 2 legs = 14 legs

10976 + 14 = 10990
