Would fiber sheep on a dry lot be a mess?

I have the opportunity to get some Jacob sheep for a good price. I am a handspinner. However, we live in the high desert and feed hay year round because we don't have irrigation at the farm we are currently at. The soil here is fairly sandy. Would the sandy soil ruin the fiber or would it be o.k.?

I would prefer sand! We have mud in spring and fall and that makes for messy fiber.

Go for it. Sand rinses out just fine. In my previous life I had Jacob sheep that got FAT on hay alone (no grain at all).
