post hole digger Q.....

Will a gas operated post hole digger dig through loose gravel? I need to put some posts up in a gravel area......suggestions?

itll do it, but yer arms are gonna be sore. it bounces and jerks a bit.

If you have compacted gravel -or- alot of holes, rent a bobcat w/ an auger...your arms will thank you.

Another thing to watch out for is that the auger can screw into the ground without actually removing the dirt from the hole. About the only thing to do then is to remove the powerhead and use a pipe wrench to unscrew it from the ground. It can be a pain in the butt.

But when everything goes right, they are a great time saver.

.............The cheap ones don't have , reverse . You could fab a 4 legged hoist with a come along to extract the digger . They work OK in normal soil , but anything else will break your back ; even the 2 Fool digger can bury itself very quickly and become totally stuck . , fordy
