Storing up ammo in the event of a national crisis...Pt II
I feel among friends after my last thread on storing food.
I am a gun owner and I like guns. As I tell anti-gun people,....Ted kennedy has killed more people with his car than I have with my guns. HA
That said, I just bought a pt111 taurus semi 12+1 on gunbroker. I did this for my wife because the gun is small and easy to handle and she likes the feel. I also bought 50 rds of hollow points for it at a gun show today in Cape Girareau MO. I am also looking to buy in the next 2 weeks a tactical shotgun 12 GA 20" barrel, 7+1.
However, are you aware that ammo is hard to come by? the .380 is near impossible to find and vendors were saying that if you can find it anywhere, then get it regardless of cost. Today I went to walmart to buy 9mm so my wife could practice tomorrow after church, guess what....theyre out. The guy at the counter tells me that as soon as they get it, its gone. I basically told my wife that the next time she goes to walmart, buy some 9mm. After that, everytime she shops, pick up a box of .22's.
I believe its also time to arm yourselves folks. Good luck in find the ammo.

Yes, our ammo counter at Walmart says the same thing. They run out as soon as they put it out.

I've got guns and I keep extra ammo. That said why do you believe it's time to arm ourselves and against what?

If you see any 9mm ammo you better grab it. Shelves are bare everywhere I look. .38 special is scarce too.

We were at Cabela's today and you could not even MOVE through the gun department. It was honestly the busiest I have ever seen that area of the store without there being a special event happening at the race track.

With some of the new bills being introduced such as H.R 45 and several at the state level, gun owners are buying all the ammo & guns they can. I believe Obama plans on re-instating parts of the assault weapons ban, so that is driving sales too.
The discussions around ammo is the potential of having to encode each round with a serial number and tag the powder. When you buy any ammo or reloading supplies, it's registered to your drivers license in case they need to track it back.
For some of those who wear tin foil hats on the WEB, there is some problems they see around this, and some are valid concerns. The government knows who bought the ammo, so they also know what guns you most likely have in your home & how many rounds should they need them. It also adds about a nickel per round to the cost, to pay for this special encoding, in which there seems to only be company with a patent on this.
If that is the route it goes, you would want to be sure and hang on to any empty shell casings that might have been registered in your name. If someone picked one of those up, reloaded it, and used it in a crime, it would be tracked back to you.
Most gun owners believe the government may not try and take away the gun after SCOTUS voted on the second amendment, but their back door method is to limit the ammo available or make it so expensive, the average person can't afford it.
All of this is fueling the increase in ammo sales & why you can't get near a gun show on weekends.

And how much ammo are you stockpiling to ward off these possible threats? I'd buy a fire suit while I was at it.

Our most recent ammo purchases have been on-line. Bought three Portugese battle packs of 7.62x51 NATO (200 rds each) from www.classicarms.com and one British ammo can of 7.62x51 NATO (450 rds) from www.jgsales.com. The British ammo was on 5-rd striper clips in bandoleers. Heres the thing, if you desire to buy bulk ammo at a somewhat reasonable price you might have to buy non-USA made ammo and/or ammo that has been stored for 10 to 20 years.
I see that jgsales.com has 1000 rd box of loose 5.56 NATO rounds (.223) made by Federal for $430.

Due to this economic situation there has been occasional police dept. layoffs here abouts. Also the shuffling of shifts etc. due to the lack of funds.
So Mr Beeman I'm saying that the police response time is longer that it has been. Isn't it better to have some means of handling a situation -yourself- .. . ??
Due to these hard times the crime rate is going up at an alarming rate . . . . . .I'm not alone in desiring to have tools to help ME out........
On this Sunday morning we all might better say a prayer that these tools do not need to be used............................

I just got a Remington 7615 .223 but after going to 3 stores was only able to find ammo for it at one place, 3 whole boxes. The shelves around here are getting about empty, even on the military base. If you can find ammo, your lucky!

I'm not having too much trouble finding ammo, even in off calibres. We keep a good bit at the house, but not that much. Mostly hunting ammo. Remember, if the transportation industry goes down - gasoline, labor, problems with long distance food chain, there will be NO food in a matter of days. We are well supplied, assuming the electricity stays on for the freezer. As for tactical weapons, anyone hearing a 12 gauge duck gun jack in a shell is going to stay off the property just the same as if you had a "black scary gun".

Buddy just called me from a gun show, found a box of ammo for an off caliber i own, $30. Not something I would shoot often, but wanted to be able to. Around here, you go by the ammo counter when you go to wal mart and see if you are lucky that day. Plenty of the value packs of 12 and 20 ga bird shot, fair amt of .22. Rifle and pistol are catch as catch can.

We don't buy any ammo online, or with check, CC, or anything traceable. Don't think for a minute that WalMart, etc., won't turn the list over to the gov't as our 2A rights dwindle away. Cash only. We're lucky to live in a state where any firearm can be purchased without any paperwork.
