newbie from VA

Hi everyone, I have been on sufficientself.com for a while now and on backyardchickens.com too but I found this site and it looks pretty cool so far. I am a 33 yr old sahm of a 4 yr old son and soon to be 2 yr old daughter that I plan on homeschooling. We have dogs (3 labs, one of each color), 2 cats, 1 hamster, 1 frog, 3 rabbits, and 8 chickens (2 roos and 6 hens). We want to raise some chicks this year for meat and we are looking at moving to a bigger piece of property so that we can someday get meat/dairy goats and possible a few head of cattle to tinker with. We are putting in our first garden this year (2 4x12 raised beds that we can hopefully keep the cats and chickens out of). We are trying to live cleaner/healthier and get away from processed foods. My husband Chad has worked for Verizon for the last 8 years and is hoping to transfer to a lineman position. For the time being he also has his own guide service for duck/geese hunts here in VA ( www.webfootmafia.com ). I look forward to meeting everyone on here and if you mosey on over to the other sites I mentioned above my name is the same. Thanks and have a great day!

Lori

Welcome! I hope you enjoy it here. You will find many kindred spirits here, and a few whackdoodles too!

Hi and welcome to the family. Like all families, we can get into some heated discussion, but mostly in General chat, but deep down we all really love each other. So, pull up a chair and stay for awhile.
