The Have-More Plan

Does anyone know if the plan sheets and bulletins referred to in this book are still available anywhere. A basic search has turned up nothing. I downloaded the book from scribd but at its original size the plans are just too small for these old eyes to decipher. Thank you

Sadly, while the book is available in full size (and much easier to read that way) from both amazon and at Baker Creek Heirloom seeds, I've not been able to source any of the companion items.

I did find out that they occasionally come up for bid on ebay, with stiff competition to get them.

I just recently bought it and LOVED it so much it is the only book review currently on my blog.

Love the old fashioned tone to some of the stuff.

And the insanely low prices. I would love a mortgage payment of $25.00 per month

The reason that it has an old fashion tone is because it was originally published in the 1950's. Most of the pamphlets are the ones from the US Agriculture department. Sadly most of them are not around but you can look at a list of things they have by going to their website.

If they came out from the Ag department then if you can find the actual name or form number you can contact your state library or a university library that has a Government Documents Library depository. Either they will have it or will be able to get it from one of the main Gov Doc libraries in the country. I used to work for a Government Document Library Depository and we had single sheets on Hog Castrating that came out in the 40's so they should have other plans that are later. I have to say it was not the most interesting library position I have had and for those who understand Dewey, LC and other shelving systems..... I LOATHE the Gov. Docs. system. I know it is logical, but I hate long strings of numbers.

Hi mduncm52,
If you downloaded it as a .pdf file (viewed in Adobe) you can increase the size of the font using the tool bar at the top. Much easier to see the barn layout and farm layout plans!

Thanks whoever put up the Have-More link! Very enjoyable and lots of good information, even if the prices are way out of date.

I have an old magazine I think it is Mother Earth News, and I believe it is the 2nd or 3rd edition and the Whole thing is the Have More Plan. It was very interesting and had some good ideas. I am assuming it is from the book of that title but I am not sure.

I wonder if that couple knew how important their works were and how many generations they would influence. Wouldn't you love to talk to them today.

My great grandmother, Adeline Miller, handed me a first edition copy, (1947), when I was about fourteen years old. I treasured it then because she gave it to me - I treasure it now for the information, and the journey that it began.

She was a spunky little lady who taught in a one-room school house, built her own furniture, and loved reading and self education.

It is a fantastic book!

Yes, it's in Mother Earth News and it's probably online at their website. It's what got me into the homesteading mode 40 years ago.

http://www.motherearthnews.com/searc...sorting=oldest

From the last page of the article:

"A friend once said to me, "Ed, why do you bother with other people? Why don't you settle down and just enjoy your own job and your "Have-More" Homestead? Why try to spread it all over the country?" I may sound silly trying to tell you why. But I feel, somehow, that in the years to come the U. S. is going to need all the help it can get toward happiness and peace and security. We aren't always going to have a boom going on. I've got a boy and I want to see him grow up in a good country, and if ten or twenty million American families can get set as well as we Robinsons are I don't think anything can hurt this nation."

Here ya go; when alllll else fails, go to used books at Amazon.com:
http://www.amazon.com/Have-More-Plan...6968362&sr=1-1

Anytime I see a book I like at the library, no matter what the date, I go to Amazon and they have always had it...
