intend to sell my russian sks rifle.....price?

I have a Russian made SKS rifle. I intend to run an ad in the local paper for $350. I will throw in 3 boxes of hollow points.

Is this okay or too much? ...any suggestions?

depending on what state you are in I might be close enough to buy it and save you the trouble of a newspaper ad. $350 sounds like a good price if it is in good condition.

In my opinion $350 is too much for an SKS. Maybe the russian ones bring significantly more money but last time I was at a gun show they had SKSes for more like $150, in decent condition directly out of arsenal storage (cosmoline). This was a couple years ago, maybe prices have risen in the wake of the new Obama administration.

Prices have risen since November of 2008!!!

AK's which before November sold for about $350 tops now are in the $1000 range...

I won't go into the reasons why, most of us already know why.

If you lived closer, I'd buy it for that.
I didn't used to like SKSs butthe more I have the better I like them.
They are very easy to take apart and very easy to repair, and there's a bajillion parts for them out there.
I haven't had a Russian, but we have 2 Chinese and a Yugo.

Go to:

www.Gunbroker.com to see what they are selling for.

Go to a pawn broker in your area to see what they are selling for in your area.

Price also depends upon the condition.

I sold two SKS at an auction last month. A Russian Paratrooper model, matching serial numbers, complete with sling and bayonet, excellent condition, went for $550. a Norinco (Chinese) basic model, in good condition, went for $175.
All depends on exactly what you have and where you are located. I would think that the $350 is about right for a basic Russian SKS.

Thank you for that link.
I put in what I have to sell, and the 4 that were offered, were in the range I always thought the rifle was worth.
My 32/40 Marlin lever action and is a 1893,,, which is Prior to 1899. At where the prices start to go down after that date. But mine is at $1,500 to 2K. Thanks
As I am thinking of selling it. I even have 4 boxes of shells for it also.

Unless i was extremely hard up for money, I wouldn't sell any guns right now.

Unless you are using the money to buy another gun, or more ammo for other guns you already have, I agree with WolfWalksSoftly. Now is not the time to be divesting yourself of armaments! (Unless you bought extras in the first place as an investment -- with prices so high, now would be the time to sell in that case.)

What BlueJuniperFarm and Wolf Walks Softly said.

Unless I had an extra crate, I wouldn't sell.

If there's another AW Ban, the price will double.

Ten years ago, I could pick these up for 90$, pickup truck loads of em... now, they're in the 275 range at a few retailers online... that was two weeks ago, they may have sold out by now.

I wouldn't sell.

Some items I've bought in the last four months have appreciated 20% already.

I will also assume you deny the Constitution and the 2A.. So to this I say, go ahead and continue down this path, because once they disarm us then you will no longer have the right to any of the other 9 amendments. I want to see you defend them with out the 2A...

I talked to my DH about this last night, he's "into" old miltary rifles. He says in our area, a Russian SKS in nice shape will go $450-$500.

He said the Russian ones are now the ones people want . . .

Methinks you read too much into a simple post. Can't someone ask a question without his/her motives being suspect (sheesh)? BTW I'm not anti-gun but I'm anti-violence.
