Introduction thread?
I didn't see one, so I hope this is okay. I have been reading for quite awhile but never got around to registering, too many irons in the fire. Husband and I both retired at the beginning of the year, so more time on our hands. We have a small farm we've been on for 25 years, raising our children, a few sheep and goats, a garden, and more recently, man tracking hounds, specifically blood and black and tan coons. We are planning to do more with the place now, and in this economy we hope to raise more of our own food. Hope to get to know all of you, this seems like a really friendly place.

Welcome aboard Sarah!
Hubby and I bought our place seven years ago and have been living on it for the past five years. We have five horses, three chickens, a duck, nine cats and 15 dogs. We take in stray and abandoned cats and dogs...mostly dogs. We grow an organic garden every year, put 33 acres into a wetlands project (planted with hardwoods) and cut hay off the rest. The kids are grown and live in different states so it's just me, hubby and the animals here.

Welcome aboardto the board! Its a lot of fun here but be careful its really addicting!lol. I tell my wife its "my network" and I have "people" when she ask how I know something I learned on here.We live on an acre at the edge of of the burbsat the edge of the city! But I still raise a garden,chickens,dachsunds(3), fancy pigeons flowers galore and cagebirds. Not a throughbred homesteader I guess but I think its a state of mind. My best friend lives in eastern Oregon, you have a beautiful state. Again Welcome!

Big Dave, it's hard to sell a trained track dog because the training is really the dog AND the handler. We have a dog that will only work with my husband, and one who will work with me. Interested in a puppy? We'll have some oops blood/black and tan coon crosses in April! Should be good cougar or bear dogs (psst, that's illegal in Oregon, but we just tree 'em, we don't kill 'em) Keeps them from coming around the property.

Welcome aboard! Glad to have you join us. DH and I live on his 18 acre family estate with a small SW mobile home that IS paid for. We have 7 kids between us. All but 2 are 16-18 years old (I have three adopted kids). We have 20 chickens, a steer, a pig, 2 bred does and a buck rabbit, two Brittney Spaniels, a Cocker Spaniel, a trash-can dog (best security dog we ever saw), and somebody just gave me a darling 2-year old dashhound (sp) that blessed us with three little surprises last Sunday. We have 7 raised-bed garden beds, a small greenhouse, and are going to put in a large garden this spring. We just added fruit trees, garlic, and an asparagus bed and have wild blackberries and blueberries and one apple tree that produce now. I pressure can and make jellies and pickles. We hope to make wine this year as well. I look forward to learning from you and will help you in anyway I can. Blessings, firegirl
