Using well house as a root cellar?

Our cinderblock well house goes about 4 feet below grade. With just the pressure tank in there, there's still plenty of space. Would it be usable as a root cellar?

I would only worry about moisture. Try some easy stuff out, like potatoes.

Sounds like it would have a lot of potential as cool storage of some sort, especially if well insulated on the outside.

cheapest way to insulate would be a earth berm or just paint it white to reflect the sun,and insulate at least the above grade portion. insulate the top with foam and put in a couple vent pipes to regulate humidity.

if you can run a few loops of pvc pipe (3"=4") deep in the ground that will help cool the incoming air then you also need one higher and opposite to create a cross ventilation the warm air will rise and pull in the cooler air. also seal any airleaks. get a couple caps sand the inside a little sometimes they fit
pretty tight. that way you can cap them off in the winter.
