Question shallow well pump

I live in northern Indiana and would like to install a well to water a 1/4 acre garden. I am told that water is available at about 20' and that a well point can be driven but I have never done this before. Does anyone here know where I could find the installation instructions for such a well, and what materials are needed (pump, tank and size, etc). Thanks!!

If it is possible to drive a well in your area any hardware store in the area should either have or can get everything you need.

Many years ago we drove a well for our house. My uncle made a driver which was nothing more than a super sized fence post driver. After we had driven several feet we'd put the pump on and see if we had hit water. We hit water at 18 feet.

I pounded an 1¼" 25' er down with a fence post driver and drive couplings.
I used regular sched 40 galvanized pipe and a sched 40 cap.

Started out by digging a post hole as deep as I could (about 4'), but if you could find someone with a soil auger (like the SCS has for soil borings) you could go deeper and have to pound less.

It took about an hour and a half to sink it, but that included a couple beer breaks *grin*

Thanks for the link. It looks kinda easy and simple. I just wanted some water closer to the garden instead of 150 yards away. This should work out!

Hey ScottinLaPorte.

My husband Paul did just that, drove in a sandpoint and hit our aquafer at 23'.

He's going to be in LaPorte, IN this coming weekend for a niece's wedding.

Paul is originally from LaPorte
