If there isn't a Hog operation very close by, this would be a fantastic deal!
Good location and great soil :-)

Excellent price on what is probably a solid old house with good bones. Nice sized piece of land, too.

Wanna be sure it isn't in a floodplain, though. How did it fare in last years TERRIBLE flooding in that area?

I just bought a 4 bedroom farmhouse on 5 and a half acres in central Wisconsin for $30,000. That house in Iowa looks like it may be in a little better shape, my poor place has been neglected for decades.

Same type of deal for us. Living along the NY/PA stateline about near Olean, NY, we bought a two bedroom 1 1/2 story house with 25 acres for $28,000 (10 yr land contract paid off in 7 yrs), 18 yrs ago. This place was used as a hunting camp for a couple of decades and never kept up. So far we've dumped closely to $25,000 into the house, with the kitchen and living room left to remodel.

Was it worth it? For us yes, as my wife and I both grew up in the country. When first married we lived in town and hated every minute of it. We may never have this place completed like we want, before we push up daisy's, but we're thankful for the peace and quiet, and can do whatever we want here critter and garden wise.

After initially posting this I began to do some research thru the iowadnr.com website and mapquest. Seems as if there is a hog confinement operation close by maybe just to the south. Can't tell for sure because the maps are never up to date. Paradise pork is the name but can't see it on any map. I guess the best thing to do is call the guy's phone number and ask.

The place I bought was actually advertised on the realty site as raw land. The only mention of the house was that it could be used for a hunting shack. Had been abandoned a couple of years ago. I almost got it to the point where it is ready to move in.
