Fire alarm

Anybody have a suggestion for a good fire alarm for the barn that would alert us in the house?
Thanks

yes , what you want to do is talk to a local ararm tech ,preferably someone who has been around a while they should have smoke detectors that have conetion points on them to go back to an alarm pannel , since they are esentialy a smoke detector acivated switch they then pass current just like a switch when there is smoke this can be hooked to any nuber of alarm buzzers bells or sirens they will also likely have an option for you there

you will need to run a wire from the barn to the house but basicaly you can use phone wire as it won't be carrying much juice

some people keep baby monitors i the barn so they can hear if somthings wrong, you could use plane old 9 volt hardware store smoke detectors and keep the monitor on then no wires are needed but distance may be an issue if it is far.

if the distance was far you could use phone wire a 48 volt power supply and 2 phones one at each end just cheap speaker phones and leave the one in the house muted and the one in the barn on speaker then when you wanted to holler out to the barn when dinner is ready you could un mute the phone in the house , this will carry 2.5 miles if you could get that much wire

If the barn is reasonably close you can just install a normal hardwired smoke alarm on a house circuit. A hardwired alarm works off of the 120V AC power with battery backup if the power is out. The alarms are wired togther with 14/3 romex so they all sound togther. The third wire carries a +9V signal when an alarm is active. You could even install one of these without the 120V supply, connecting only the 9V signal and common to another alarm in the house.

There are also a couple lines of wireless interconnected smoke alarms out there. One I have used is OneLink by First Alert. These alarms talk to each other over wireless communications and all sound at the same time. They do go through batteries a little faster than a normal alarm but they do work as advertised. I am not sure what the range on the wireless is, you'd have to check that.

We have some in our barn that are hardwired, but they send out a radio signal to the other detectors elsewhere so they all go off at the same time. I believe they were around $60 a piece.

Thank you so much for the ideas! I'm giving all this info to DH and hopefully getting something set up soon.

We bought the battery operated OneLink by First Alert last week and the range on them stinks. Was only trying to go about 40 feet and they wont do it, we can only get about 30 feet out of them.

I noticed on this fire alarm the temp range is 40 degrees to 100 degrees....that won't work here. Right now it's 9 degrees in our barn. Brrrrrrrrrr
