Which is the best chainsaw deal?

What's the best deal?

"Jonsered 2150 Turbo Chainsaw 20" Bar - $275. Great chain saw in great condition! 49.4 cc, 3.1 hp, 10.8 lbs. 2 yrs old, low hours and runs perfect. I don't burn wood for heat anymore so don't have use for saw."

"Husqvarna 350 with 18" bar. Used three times before my grandpa decided it made him too nurvouse to use a saw. In new condition. $265 OBO"

"Husqvarna Rancher 455 Chainsaw. Paint is still on the bar! Asking $190"

(This is for general homestead use, not for making a living with.)

One of my Husky's is a 455, and it's been a good saw. I think they generally sell new in the mid $300's. Good luck on finding a good saw.

My smaller saw is the 455 it is equiveilent to sthil farm boss I also have a Husky 575, I would buy that 455, as cheap as I could just for a spare. I had it for 3 years, just got done cutting 12 cord of Black locust (harder than oak) before I broke it enough to have to go to the saw place (recoil starter mech) while there I bought the bigger saw and they repaired the other for free as a bonus. I was going to buy a bigger saw (to the tune of $700 more) and they talked me out of it. Said I would end up hating it because of the weight and we don't have enough 5' dia trees to justify it, I'm glad they did.
Now I use the big saw to drop trees and for cutting beams, the 455 is outfit with a 16" bar down from a 20" and it screams through fire wood and smaller stuff.

They are all pretty durn good deals, and about equal overall, the determiner to me would be how old you are. and how old you plan to be before giving up on using chainshaws? If you are under fifty, and plan to be using it till you are around 105 or so, go with the Jonsered. If yer over fifty and dont plan to use it much beyond your 80s, the huskies will serve you as well.

Yer funny! :baby04: I'm exactly 50, but I'm getting this mainly for handy manly men to help out . I hate chainsaws. The noise, the stink, the dangerousness of them. I have used one -- in fact, it was one of the first tools I bought when I moved to the country, but it had "Stihl" written on it and last year someone did ...

What's the difference between the Husqy 350 and the 455?

If you buy a Stihl, people will do exactly what the label tells them to do, just as you say.

Best thing if you get a Stihl is to paint it yellow and slap a Poulan sticker on it. Best theft protection available.

Since your not going to use the saw to often, I'd go with the lightest one weight wise. They all seem to be good deals guess it would be a matter of choice.
Me, I own a Huskqvarna Rancher (20-21" bar) had it so long that they don't even make this version any longer. It serves me well cutting 7-8 full cord a year plus.

All good advice and I don't know what the best thing to buy is. Just get the one you would be most happy to have I guess. The best saw I have ever owned isthe one I still use the most. A Stihl Farm Boss w/18 inch bar. After the 18" bar wore out I got a 16" replacement. I bought this saw new in 1982. Only thing I have ever done in the way of maint. is replace the bars and chains every few years and of course the spark plug and filters every year faithfully. It was a chunk of money in 1982 to be spending for a saw, but if you figure it out over the last 27 years my cost per use is pretty low. Good luck!

Husq difference

The 455 with a 20 in bar is about $400 new, the 350 about $325 with an 18 in bar. More CC's in the 455 and you can change bar size all you want. If it looks nice, I'd go for the 455 at that price.

They are all good saws. I always try to get saws that have a local dealer who has an on-site shop, so that might be a consideration, depending on whether there is a Jonsereds or Husky dealer nearby. If there are dealers with a shop for both, go with the one that feels best to you.

I have had a few Jonsereds over the last 35+ years, and they all still run, although we also have a couple of Stihls, too. One of the Jonsereds we found in the trash, someone ran it without oil until the piston seized and then threw it out. One of my sons found it, took it apart, cleaned it up, and are still using it 5+ years later. It is a big one so we don't use it as much as the smaller models.
