Cultivate Hen of the Woods Mushrooms?

We enjoy eating and canning Maitake/Hen of the Woods mushrooms. We don't find them growing wild here in the Ozarks.

Does anyone grow them successfully? If so, how?

You can buy kits to grow them in your home or you can buy spawn plugs to try your hand outdoors. If you buy a kit for indoor growth, you can actually plant the spawn left in the kit outdoors after you've harvested and see what happens. Mushrooms are hard to cultivate in the wild because they all have very specific cultural requirements, but it's worth a try. www.fungi.com is a good source.
