Tree trimming or removal question.

Anyone trim tree's by the moon sign? Does anyone cut down tree's that you don't want in your yard by the moon sign? Anyone know of a website to visit about these questions I have asked?

Well, the onliest moon sign we have around our place is the little cutout on the outhouse door.

And, come to think of it, there is an ol' oak tree next to the house out back that has been hollowed out by carpenter ants. So, I guess I will be cutting down that tree by the moon sign.

Any other questions?

No signs here either. There is a big old white oak out by the mailbox but no way am I cutting it down. I have thinned out a lot of sugar maples back behind the chicken house, they was crowding the walnut trees. I do have some honey locust I'm fixin to cut down this winter so's I can expand the lower field a might. I've cut some wild cherry that were a nusiance---they burned real nice the last couple winters, kind of slow and steady once they're seasoned.

Pruning of trees that are desirable, as a general rule, should be done as the moon waxes.
Culling of undesirable brush and trees should be undertaken during the waning portion of the cycle.

The former, generally, contains the nurturing, life-giving signs, the latter the barren, death signs.

This to the best of my recollection.

My dad always gardened and killed hogs by the moon's sign. Its funny though, every time I brought up them moon signs on some of them days on the farm when we was working our eyes out, and it was hotter than 40 yards of you know where,he didn't seem to recall any of those signs saying it would be best waiting till tomorrow.Recon all that heat kinda caused him to forget. I'm not into moon signs, but that's no big deal to anyone else.... I can see pruning to moonsigns, but what difference would it make cutting down a tree? It's done & over, don't see where that would matter.

Here we cut up firewood by the calander - farm in summer, tree work in winter. Prune in August when the farm work is a little slower.

The reason one cuts down a treee on the moon sign is to make sure the stump dies and doesn't start sprouting back a bunch of new shoots. A stump that doesn't die takes forever to get rid of by hand or takes big machines to push it out. If it dies the roots will die out and you can pretty much pull the stump out by hand in a yearor two's time.

One prunes by the sign so that new shoots don't pop out and the cuts heal fast and don't ooze, causing a vector for contamination.

When I cut down trees, I give the stump a spray of Tordon mixed with deisel fuel. That always works sign or no sign. I get it at the local feed store.

Bunk. Pure and simple, bunk.
It makes not a bit of difference.
The force excerted by the moon is tiny and has no effect on the sap or anything else.

That's how my grandparents were. They didn't move a muscle without consulting the moon signs first. If they was killing a tree, digging a hole, planting gardens, going fishing, etc. they always checked with the moon signs first. They were very self reliant as back in their days there were no industries around here to rely on.

But I need to trim some apple trees and I also have two trees that need to be taken out of my yard and I don't want shoots popping up all around the stumps.
