Front mount snowblower for tractor

I have been keeping my roads on my farm open with a back blade on my tractor. I would really like a snow blower that goes on the front - maybe attaches to the loader with the bucket off. I can't imagine the sore neck I would get if I had to use a rear mounted blower. Turning to watch the back blade is bad enough. Who might manufacture a front snowblower.? My tractor is a JD 5400 about 70 HP. Thanks LJ

Just saw one for sale in the local Exchange paper. "KUBOTA Snow blower, front mount, 5', 2 stage, model B2660 like new, fits 20-30hp tractors, $2000". Might be small for you outfit, but maybe Kubota makes a larger model.

Might be less expensive to buy one of the Ford tractors with reversible seats (TV140).

If you put any decent size blower on the front you will need weights on the rear to get traction.

You probably don't want a front mount blower on a 2wd tractor. It puts a lot of weight up front in the steering wheels, and takes a lot of weight off the rear wheels - opposite of what you need for blowing snow.

They cost more, as you need the driveline from the rear pto to the front of the machine - unless you have a front pto on the tractor. As wellas the front mounting brackets & hydralics to lift.

Seems like a lot more work to attach & remove....

You lose the use of the bucket, which can be handy for scraping ice & so forth.

Now, if you have a compact little tractor with a front pto & 4wd, then never mind - those are built for a front mount blower.

Placing the blower on the loader arms sounds good, but how do you power it? About the only practical way is to use hydraulic motor. But very few tractors have enough hyd power to spin a fair sized snow blower. It works with a skid steer, where the whole unit is basically a huge hydraulic unit with lots of flow & cooling. But a tractor typically doesn't have the 20-60 hyd hp needed to run a blower.

Just my thoughts on the matter, and some things to ponder. Don't let me talk you out of it, but just some thoughts.

What about a 3-pt snowblower? You keep the advantage of having the loader if needed. It keeps the weight over the rear wheels when moving, and if you are used to the back blade then using it will be easy. Plus they are MUCH cheaper and don't have to be model specific to mount up to the tractor. Mike
