Exterior Electronic Thermometers ?

Sometime during last winter's 110" record snowfall we lost the thermometer that was stuck to the outside of our kitchen window for the last 8+ years. It was accurate and went down to -40* F which comes in handy when you live in WI.

I've been looking for a replacement exterior thermometer and keep finding that electronic thermometers are taking up the store displays where old fashioned thermometers used to be. I think they are really neat, but after reading the back label of several, it seems to me that none of them are made for Wisconsin winters as they only go down to -4*F or so.

Do you know of any that work at lower temps or is this temperature limitation due to the batteries freezing?

In the meantime, I'm still looking for a regular thermometer that sticks to the outside of the window as DH doesn't want to make any extra holes in siding

Thanks in advance

I have had a few weather stations with outdoor temperature sending unit and none seem to last.

Here is a link to Taylor precision measuring instruments which is known to be good. I expect your old unit may have been a Taylor. A good hardware store should be able to order one in for you if you don't care to order via Internet.

Someday I hope to buy a very high quality outdoor electronic unit but until I can afford a really good one I'll pass on the inexpensive ones.
