Question What oil on scythe blade?

What kind of oil should I use on my scythe blade to keep it from rusting over the winter?
It is from Scythe Supply in Maine.
Do I need to do anything to the snath to keep it nice?
I could contact Scythe Supply, but I thought I'd ask y'all first.

It is beat to use Grease on the scythe just about any grease will work Just use a little. Do you have a wood snath? If so use neathfoot oil on it and it will make it shine and water proof.

Thanks Old Vet!
Is that "Vet" as in veteran or "Vet" as in veterinarian?
If veteran, Happy Veterans Day! and thanks for that too.

Do you mean like tractor grease? I think we have some of that.
Just a thin layer I presume.
I never heard of neathfoot oil, where would I find something like that? (yes, it's a wooden snath).

Depends on what you are cutting. If you are just cutting weeds, it doesn't really matter what kind of oil or greese you use. If you are going to be eating the cuttings or feeding them to rabbits, chickens or goats, make sure it is an oil or greese you can eat.

I use boiled linseed oil cut 1/2 and 1/2 with mineral spirits on the snath. only have to do it about every 3rd year or so. I wax the blade just with parrafin. I just rub it on.

Use Vaseline and linseed oil That would be enough to keep it fresh. That is Vet in Veteran.
