DH wears New Balance ankle high socks. we found them at Sears. They are a blend and so far they haven't lost shape nor worn thru at the toe as quickly as the all- cotton in any brand we have tried.

you can get imperfect rei brand wool socks from the rei outlet store - at the right time, of course - for something like $3/pair. They are absolutely awesome!

Smart Wool socks wear like iron. I have some that I've been wearing for years, and they're still going strong.

I wear boots to work every day and all weekend long. (I don't even own a pair of tennis shoes or sandals.) I have found that Gold Toe crew socks last the longest.

cabin fever do you wear steel toed boots? we have to where i work and some of the ladies have started using iron on patches in the toe area. that seems to be where they wear out the quickest. they said it works but i havent tried it yet.

I posted on here asking about a good sock for my husband about a year ago, and got poor Mitch upset, thinking I was complaining about the man! He pokes holes in the top of his socks when pulling them up, no matter how hard I've tried to teach him! Gold Toe socks seem to wear well, but he doesn't like black socks in the summer, and I haven't found tall enough socks in white that stay up over his large calves in boots, which is what he wears most of the time. I hate paying 12 dollars a pair for socks! I suppose it would be cost effective, tho compared to buying so many of the cheaper ones. Jan in Co

No, I don't wear steel toe boots. I wear "regular" boots because I prefer boots over most footwear.

I've always prefered wool socks over cotton or synthetic. Even in summer. Smart Wool. You get what you pay for.

i like the smart wool site and checked out the socks. i wish they had a heavy cushion type in over-the-calf, even if the top was lighter. man... i'm picky about socks, lol.

My husband had the problem of wearing out a pair of socks before he was even done with the work day for a long time. He wears steel toed work boots. I finally found some Winchester socks at WalMart of all places (they were in the sporting goods section) and he's been wearing them for years now. When we weren't able to find them anymore, we bought him some Dickie's boot socks (at WalMart too) and those have lasted him a couple years, but have started wearing out. The Winchester socks have lasted well, he says they're very comfortable, and don't slip down after awhile... the Dickie's did after a couple years. I haven't looked at any of the WalMarts near us since we moved, but I will be buying the Winchester socks for him again when he needs them.
