My mom's corn pone was flat bread.

Something like this:
Ingredients:

* 2 cups cornmeal
* 1 teaspoon baking powder
* 1/2 teaspoon salt
* 1 tablespoon lard or shortening
* milk, enough to make a stiff dough

Preparation:
Mix together cornmeal, baking powder, and salt. Cut in lard and add enough milk to make a stiff batter. Form into cakes with hands and place in a greased baking pan. Bake in a preheated 425° oven for 20 to 30 minutes.

I think I will go ahead while the oven is hot and make some cornbread so we can have it for breakfast tomorrow...
thanks for the reminder that it has been awhile.. like a month, since I made cornbread.
How did I go so long without it... wish I had some sorghum.
