Aahhhh! The feel of good woodstove heat.

Fired up my brand new woodstove this evening. Aahhh, the comfort of a warm house. Bought me one of those old timey black cast iron woodstoves to replace the pot bellied stove I bought last year. The pot bellied woodstove sucked!!!! Big time!!!!!! Done nothin but froze all last year.

Now I got good heat and it feels good. Stinks a little bit. Got to get the new burned off, but I'm warm and comfortable.

Don't burn too hot for its first three fires...you want to let the stove "cure"

We haven't put a fire in the stove here yet, but it's so nice and cozy, we don't want to leave the living room!
I remember the first time we put a fire in ours, it smelled SO BAD.
I would tell anyone using theirs for the first time to fire it up during the day and let the stink get over with before bedtime.
Ours is a Woodstock Soapstone stove with a window on the front, and it's great!
When we bought this place there was an ugly brown box thing with no window. This one's much nicer!

We first started our wood stove outside in the driveway with a section of pipe attached as others recommended, to reduce that "new stove smell". Wow, has it been warm in our house so far, we are finally learning how distribute the heat to make the living room a berable place to be, according to the thermostat last night it was 83 degrees 'F in the house, we heat using a Buck Stove brand stove, and have a 1600 SqFT home in SE Ohio.

Yeah I agree you can't beat the heat from a woodstove. We have been having fires most of the last two weeks. The last couple of days we didn't need a fire but this morning I started the fire and it is great. I get a good fire going and then close the dampers down and it will go for hours. If we want a fire all night I just load the stove with chunky pieces and when one of us gets up in the morning we add some more. I like to sit and readd by the stove or just watch the flames with a hot cup of tea. As a matter of fact have a cup of tea with me and bring it by the fire. Nothing better.

we wish we would have bought ours sooner. the old fireplace was just so inefficient, and the woodstove is sooooooo wonderfully warm. I agree..those first 3 small break-in burns were smelly. we did those while we could still have windows and doors open. we also love sitting in front of the fire with our after dinner tea, especially with these past fews days soooooo cold. can still watch the flame like the old fireplace. I actually love the look of the woodstove better in our house. our little house stays warm, and our upstairs loft bedroom is really warm now. if our oil furnace runs at all, it will be maybe once during the night at the worst frigid weather. that makes me smile!

Well it's 24 hours later and I'm still burning on that same match. Got up this morning and there was still some coals and a small chunk of wood inside. Added a few small sticks and got the fire going again then I left the house and let my wife feed it for the day. Came home this evening to a warm house and the fire still going. If the weather don't heat back up again that one match my last till April.
