First real snow coming to the NorthEast

Looks like Noaa is predicting the first real snow across the elevations of eastern NY and into New England.

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE BINGHAMTON NY
153 PM EDT MON OCT 27 2008

.SHORT TERM /6 PM THIS EVENING THROUGH WEDNESDAY/...
FORECAST BECOMES MUCH MORE COMPLICATED TONIGHT AS MODELS ARE
TRENDING TWD A MORE DEVELOPED SYSTEM OFF THE EAST COAST. THE NAM
IS THE MOST DEVELOPED AND SLOWER OF THE MODELS, SO IT`S SOLUTION
WAS LEANED AWAY FROM FOR THIS FCST PKG. FOLLOWED A MORE MIDDLE OF THE
ROAD APPROACH TWD THE GEFS MEAN WHICH IS SLIGHTLY LESS DEVELOPED
THAN THE DETERMINISTIC GFS SOLUTION. THIS WOULD FOCUS THE CORE OF
THE WRAP AROUND MOISTURE FROM THIS SYSTEM NWD FROM THE ADIRONDACKS
INTO NORTHERN NEW ENGLAND. THAT BEING SAID...THE NEW ECMWF JUST
COMING IN IS ALSO TRENDING TWD A SOLUTION SOMEWHERE BETWEEN THE
NAM AND GFS...SO THIS SYSTEM DEFINITELY BEARS WATCHING OVER THE
NEXT COUPLE OF MODEL RUNS AS ALL MODELS SEEM TO BE CONVERGING ON A
FAIRLY SIMILAR SOLUTION. IT IS BECOMING MORE LIKELY THAT SOMEWHERE
FROM SRN ADIRONDACKS INTO NEW ENGLAND MAY SEE A FAIRLY SIGNIFICANT
EARLY SEASON SNOWFALL. DEPENDING ON TRACK AND TEMP PROFILES, IT IS
POSSIBLE THAT MORE ACCUMULATING SNOW COULD EXTEND FURTHER TO THE
SOUTH AND WEST THAN CURRENT THINKING.

TEMP PROFILES INDICATE PRECIP WOULD START OUT IN LIQUID FORM, THEN
LEAN TWD A CHANGE OVER TO MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW OR ALL SNOW DURING
TUESDAY AFTN AS COLDER AIR GETS PULLED IN AND THE COLUMN COOLS.
SRN PART OF THE TUG HILL MAY BE ON THE FRINGE OF SOME OF THE
HEAVIER SNOW THAT LOOKS LIKE WILL FALL TO THE NORTH. FOR NOW, HAVE
INCLUDED SNOW TOTALS NEAR ADVISORY CRITERIA FOR TUESDAY AFTN INTO
TUESDAY NIGHT UP ACROSS ONEIDA COUNTY.

ONCE THIS SYSTEM EXITS TO THE NORTH, LAKE EFFECT SNOW SHOWERS ARE
EXPECTED ACROSS THE NORTH WEDNESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY NIGHT AS 850 MB
TEMPS DROP TO AROUND -8C.

3-6"
Looks like a nice nor'easter. I'm sure glad my trees have about lost all their leaves. Take the time to check your livestock tonight. Give them some extra bedding and if they are the type...a good nibble of grain. This is an early storm.

If your in an area that is to be affected and your trees haven't lost their leaves. be prepared to lose power. those leaves really give something for the snow to stick to.

Do you have any down in that area? We have 7" or so. It's sticking real good to the trees and wires... Which isn't too good.

We just have rain so far, but predicting accumulation for tonight. Going to move the chickens to barn tonight. I have hay in the barn for the cows but will go out before sunset to give more. The grass is so green it's hard to believe it will be covered in white stuff very soon.

You poor people! It is snowing in the mountains here, but not in the flat land. Whew!
It is windy and cold though.
You will be in my thoughts because I think it is the first of many, many you will get this year.
Heck, I think even I will get some this year.

No! No! No! Ya'll keep the snow PLEASE! They keep forecasting for it, but so far it's just cold, windy and really weird phases of rain (On one side of the road yesterday it was pouring down, you crossed the street and it was doing nothing and the sun was shining!) I'm NOT ready for snow...Guess I should move to a different area where it doesn't happen eh? LOL

There is a little slush on out tin roof but so far we are getting mostly rain. My poor cats are in and out of the house every 5 minutes. A very gloomy day here.

It's affecting the airlines pretty horribly. My best friends father passed away and she was due to get into Detroit at 11:30 am this morning (She resides in Fl and had a connecting flight from Philly) After getting bumped in Florida (30 soldiers were returning home!! So no complaints there!)

She finally got into philly, was supposed to depart at 11, they cancelld that, rebooked her to 3, cancelled again, 420 cancelled, 6 pm, Cancelled now HOPEFULLY the 9pm flight they are putting her on will actually take off! If not, she'll be spending the night in the airport because as the airline stated since it's weather related they don't have to comp her a hotel room or anything else.

Sad thing is, the funeral home is holding off on the cremation and service instructions until she can get here to ID his body and fill out the rest of the paperwork.

Went to the website for Philly's airport and it's flight after flight of cancellations, so is this supposed to be a REALLY bad storm?
