Skid steer attachments for tractor?

I'm looking at getting a compact tractor, and the salesman tells me that there is an coupler/attachment of some sort that will allow the tractor to handle any attachments a skid steer can take.
I'd like to get a clamshell bucket for boulder placement and pallet forks.

Has anyone tried this? Is it worth it all said and done- and is it simple to remove to attach your FEL? This would be on and off frequently.

Thanks again.

The mounting plate for a skid steer is fast becoming the standard for implement attachments. However, most compact tractors do not have the lifting capacity to handle the larger implements built for skid steers. My skid steer can lift 1700 lbs but when I have the trencher or the rotary cutter attached the implements are about all the skid steer can manage. I have an adapter that will convert the mounting mechanism for a tractor bucket on a front end loader to that of a skid steer. It works fine for the bucket and makes it nice when you want to use the tractor without the bucket. Neither of the two implements mentioned above could be used on the tractor due to their weght and the tractor is 52 HP.

The skid steer is becoming the standard - so it would be very handy.

The problem for a small tractor, is that they only lift 400-1000 lbs on the loader. The adaptor will move the bucket/etc out a couple inches, reducing lift capacity. The plate itself for each attachment weighs 70 lbs or so, reducing capacity. The adaptor itself weighs over 100 lbs.

Many of the coolest attachments require hyd or are very heavy. Won't work with a small or medium tractor.

Your question is a bit puzzling - what part are you asking about, "is it simple to remove to attach your FEL?" Do you mean the skid steer items - yes they are very simple to put on & off. Or do you mean the adaptor thing? You would not want to take that on or off. You would not get the 'regular' laoder bucket, you would get a skid steer type and make sure anything you get for your loader is that type.

Just remember, the adaptor will decrease your loader's capibilities because of the weight of the extra bits plus it extends the bucket out a few extra inches. Be sure you get enough tractor & hyd to account for this.

I have a Mahindra, a couple of years old, w/loader.
I recently picked up some "pallet forks" for the bucket. Works very well as round bale mover and brush forks, but I suspect the "clam shell" would be better.

The newer Mahindra loader has the adapter for the "Bobcat"/skid steer attachments.

I hoping that they will make an adaptor for my loader, as it seems that this is the new "hot set-up".
Lot of places now renting these attachments.
