Abandoned properties

Has anyone ever bought an abandoned farm/ranch? I assume you'd find a property and trace tax records to find the owner....but has anyone ever done this while living in another state? If so, how did you find the place/do the legwork?

Which state is the abandon property in? In Minnesota it would be easy. You would get the address of the property, call the assessor's office or auditor's office and ask them. A lot of the times this information is online too. Some states have privacy laws that don't allow for this, so, I guess the answer is "depends on which state the property is in". You could also call a title company in that state and ask them how much it would cost to have them look into it for you.
