Need an affordable hand powered water pump

I'm trying to find something similar to this, or that works in the same way:

http://www.lehmans.com/shopping/prod...&keyword=93099

But that one is way too expensive.

I googled and the ones I could find were even more expensive.

Does anyone know where I could find one that costs, ummm, maybe not more than $50?

I think that the price is reasonable. Pay less, and you are most likely going to have an inferior product that will not survive normal to hard use.

You did notice that the lehmans pump is NOT food grade safe in the description? You didnt mention what you wanted it for so just thought I'd point that out. Anyway here is a pump that would be simular: http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/cta...emnumber=45743

Though its a barrel pump, you would have to do some adapting to make inlet/outlet look like the lehmans pump if that is your need. Look at other harber freight pumps, there is another simular barrel pump for few bucks cheaper. There are also those little pumps at lowes and such that run off an electric drill. Or I have salvaged drain pump off old automatic washing machine. Older washers had belt pulley already on them, newer ones tend to use a rubber connector thing to attach to motor. If you need it to be a hand pump, sure you could rig up a hand crank.

Ok, I'll have to explain.

My mother wants it for emergency use, just in case the Stuff HTF and we had to depend on getting water out of the nearby lake (it's really a man-made very large pond/very small lake).

Her idea is to carry barrels to the lake and pump water out of the lake into them.

I don't know if that's a practical idea, but she's obsessed with being prepared, and that's the idea she came up with.

Well, if it is just for backup/shtf you could build an inertia pump for just a few dollars. Go to http://www.fdungan.com/well.htm and scroll down until you see the header: An Inexpensive Do-It-Yourself Deep Well Pump.

Basically, it is just a foot valve on a bit of pvc pipe and some tubing. Stick the tubing in your bucket/barrel, stick the end of the pipe into the water and start making small strokes up and down, kinda like churning butter. This pump has only one moving part (besides you!) which is a small ball bearing. If the pump gets clogged with sand, just unscrew it, clean the ball and you're back in action.

Check with Harbor Freight.

It will probably be made by our future overlords in China.

If it doesn't need to be food grade you can use a barrel pump. Add a hose to the pump to reach barrel barrel you want to pump into and place the pickup of the pump in the pond. Just make sure it is one ment for water.

http://www.preparedness.com/wabahapu.html

You can also then use the pump to empty the barrels.

You can get barrel pumps for $25 to $50. Search enough and you might find a food grade one.
