Flatbottom jon boat

Anyone know about what a used flatbottom jon boat would fetch? I found one for sell that's about 12 ft. long, 36" wide, and maybe about 18"deep.

They're wanting $800 for it along with a shoddy looking boat trailer. No motor, tag up to date and has been rigged up for fish gigging. Not sure what year it is but looks in good shape.

$800 sound like a fair deal to you all?

Around here $200-$300.

I got one but I'm thinking I would rather have a 14 foot for Gigging.

I got a 16' old glass boat with 40 horse motor and trailer for less money from Craigslist. In the winter the prices go down around here.

Around here you can't give a Old Fiberglass Boat away.

Around here you couldn't give a jonboat away. But a McKenzie River driftboat will bring thousands.

12 feet is kinda small and 800 sounds kinda high. I think you can pass on this one and get better for less, but maybe your area is kinda tight on supply?

Just got off of Bass Pro website and I can have a brand new one with no trailer and not rigged up for fish gigging for the low price of $794 buckaroos.

I have a spare boat trailer out in the weeds somewhere that I could use, but to rig up the boat with a standing rail and lights for night time gigging would probably run me another $100 bucks.

So should I buy the used, already rigged up boat for $800 or buy the brand new boat and put another $100 bucks in it to rig it up for gigging?

I went through the same search process about 6 months ago, it was very hard to find a used boat at a decent price. I just wanted something to keep on our 9 acre pond, I finally broke down and bought a new Lowe 14 ft. at Cabela's.

If it's a smaller boat with rivets, I'd say spring for the new boat.

Personally, I would keep shopping.

I agree, find a used boat at a reasonable price can be difficult and tiring. Try finding a canoe around here. You can buy a new canoe for not much more than a used one.

There are some deals to be had out there. My best friend went thru the exact same thing. Finally found a V-bottom, with non-starting motor, trailer and life jackets for $325.
He had to put a little money into it, like tires for the trailer, and paint for the boat, but it was a labor of love, and he has a nice boat and rig today, ready to go at a minutes notice.

With a slowing economy, I would think hard and long before spending money like that on a new boat.

We are saving money, and if we had debt, we would be paying it down. That is just me though.

Well I got my debt paid down (my wife doesn't hers). But I'm thinking in the long run I could spend $800 dollars on something that will help put food on the table for years to come or I could use it up on 2 or 3 months worth of food for now and possibly be hurting for food later.

Even before all this doom and gloom we are having, I have always been the type of person to stock up on all the wild game and fish that I possibly could catch for free or almost free. And if this doom and gloom gets even worse I will probably have a few in-laws to worry about feeding also.

So I really need to find something fast cause in a couple more months gigging season will be open down on the river that's close by. Not to mention that crappie and sandbass had ought to be bit'n good right now.

Hey.

The boat should be no more than $500 tops if it's in real nice shape...keep looking.

Alot depends on your location...lots of lakes here in WI, so there's plenty to pick from.

Good point.

Anything on ebay or craigslist in your area?

You say you have a trailer. Any chance that could be salvaged with new tires, wiring, and repacking the bearings?

Yes I could salvage the trailer. It's a really nice boat trailer that I've had for years made out of square tubing. I was gonna make a small flat bed trailer out of it but have never gotten around to it. Been parked out back in the weeds for about 3 years so I know it will need new tires on it.

I haven't checked with Ebay or Craiglist. Since I don't have a checking account not sure how I would pay for something if I won the bid.

I just bought one (12-footer) back in July at a garage sale. Was looking for canoes, but couldn't pass up the price: $75 bucks. All it needed was a coat of paint.
