My FIL just found a bunch too! He usually has a family get together and batters and deep fries them for us. YUMMY! He has been keeping his under a damp towel for a couple of days until we could all get together tonight and eat them. I don't think they would be very good after they are frozen. But I don't know for sure. Maybe they could be dehydrated for use later?

Ok I feel like an idiot we have them growing everywhere around our farm. I never though you could eat them. I am looking online right now for a few more photos and how to cook them. Wait until I print them off for DH to look at. He will be all kinds of happy.

I asked FIL tonight about this when we all got together. He said to saute them with butter, onion, and green peppers. Season them to your taste and THEN freeze them. He just did a bunch that way this afternoon to have later on with steak.

Looks like you have a nice bunch of mushrooms! Enjoy!

They are a excellent keeper if you dehydrate them. Just store them in ziploc bags in the pantry and then you can use them anytime you want when making dishes calling for mushrooms.

Just don't eat too much in one sitting....hen of the woods can be a bit tough to digest!

I have to find a new "spot" as my usually two places were washed away in the flood.

shroomin'

I wish I could find a mushroom "expert" to take me 'shroomin' so I don't kill myself or end up on some trip tasting colors and talking to pixies.

If you can't find a shroomer to take you out, every state has at least one or two mushroom clubs. The cost is usually about $10.00 to $15.00 for a years' membership. They have meetings, cooking events, and forays that you go out with mushroom experts that show you what is what. Google mushroom clubs and you'll be able to find them in your state.
