Refrigerator noise

For about a week my refrigerator has been making a constant noise. It sounds like it is coming from the back of the freezer and it sounds like a fan running. This is a noise that it has made off and on for as long as I can remember but this time the noise goes on constantly and never stops. It is fairly loud. The refrigerator and freezer seem to be working normally. Does anybody have an idea what this could be?

Refrigerator Noise

IF YOU HEAR IT IN THE FREEZER ITS THE FAN, COULD BE LOOSE, IF YOU HEAR IT TOWARDS THE BACK BOTTOM, YOUR COMPRESSOR MAY BE FIXING TO DIE. fANS ARE EASY TO REPLACE AND YOU CAN GET A USED ONE FOR LESS THAN 5 DOLLARS. THE COMPRESSOR WELL THATS DIFFERENT AS YOUR DEALING WITH FREON.

Thanks busybee. It is in the freezer, so I guess that is good news.

It is 6 years old. It is a GE with the freezer on top. The funny thing is the sound had been going non-stop for a week and now it has stopped. The weather turned cold this morning and it is 68 degrees inside the house. I'm wondering if that had anything to do with the noise stopping. I mean maybe the refrigerator isn't having to work as hard as when it was about 80 degrees in here.

I had a funny noise that that once too. Ended up a piece of paper fell behind the frig and was caught in the fan. So my suggestion is to clean out behind and under the frig and make sure nothing is caught in the fan. Might as well clean the coils while your at it.
