Help please, electrical problem

Okay our stove is going wacko, and believe me I don't need another issue. Soem of you may remember that we went thur the storm (hurricane Ike) and didn't have power for 10 days....and had a generator hooked up. We didn't use the stove off the generator. We have a built-in glass top stove which is tripping a 2 pole 70 amp breaker. The breaker serves the stove and oven. Problem is turning on even one burner on the stove trips it....oven tripping it too ??? It never did this before the storm....nor the days directly afterwards....until today.

Going to be hard to diagnose unless you have a clamp on amp meter and are comfortable working in a breaker panel. It could be a faulty circuit breaker, if you are comfortable working in the panel you can replace the breaker they are usually not that expensive. If you are not comfortable working in the panel, call an electrician and let him figure out what is going on.

Make sure the 'neutral' is hooked up at the pole (and wherever your connections were broken.

Check voltage across the 240 legs and also check voltage from each leg to the neutral You should have 120vac from each leg to the neutral and/or ground.

I need more info to help any more.

We figured out the problem. The screw was loose on that breaker. It works now. Must have gotten loose with all the messing with it during the storm. Thanks for all the help.
