the perfect homesteaders job ?

I think I have the perfect homesteaders job. i will tell you a out it then everyone should feel free to tell us about your perfect homestead job. I am a independent contracter who delivers vehic
es ,mostly the money is in dirty nasty greasy old semis, but sometimes like now we are moving new trucks and flying back. why is it agood homesteaders job?? I work as much as I want to when I want to. usually that means I work 7 to 10 days earn$1500 to $ 3000 then take a month or two off. right now with the new ones the money is so good I will provably stay out a couple months or more. moveing new trucks is the only trucking job I know that will take you to tahiti. they fly you back so save the frequent flyer miler and go any where you want. the downside is that you usully can't take anyone wirh you then. usually with used ones and sometimes with new we travel home or to our next trip by private or rental car..since we seldom have any time constraints its a perfect time to explore for a new homesteade or check out a faraway dealer or breeder in person. of course if its january and your in los angeles you might just slip in a vacation before heading home to deliver lambs at 20 below.

I have 2 jobs. I am a Paramedic, I curently work fulltime 24 hours on, 48 hours off at one job, and the other I am a Firefighter-Paramedic Partime and work every 6th day for 16 hours. So basically before the part time job in the big city came along, I worked 1 day and had 2 days off. To me its the perfect farmer schedule. Luckily enough I have a wife that keeps the farm while I work.

fantasymaker, sounds like a good job. How does one get into this kind of business? I'm thinking of going to truck driving school and will be looking for something.

My job is great for homesteading too, I'm a farrier, so I set my own schedule and fee structure, and work only for people that I like

Another great aspect to it is that by default all my clients are animal people/farmers, so if I have an emergency come up with my own critters (like a colic or injury) there is a lot of understanding about the need to re-schedule.

LOL like every job in trucking first you have to get a years experriance. after that give me or any other driver that does it a holler.
you might be able to get a job moving singles with just a trucking school training and it would be a good time to learn the business, but its hard to make a living on singles money.

Hi fantasymaker;
I have the perfect homesteaders job. I was hired by the state to provide services for my dd, who is devlopmental disabled. Since I work at home I have zero commuting expenses. This allows me to do my homesteading work in the early morning hours and after work, I do more homesteading work until 9:00 p.m. and usually, I work all day Saturday and all day Sunday.

We board dogs only, no breeding or selling . makes good money . & we both like it . I have time to work around the place and makes us a GOOD living also. to help out we sell eggs, sweet corn, maters & the like. Also we have a few dove shoots that is a grate little money maker . The drive to work is ZERO miles . so no gas.

I have a pretty good homesteader's job! I work p/t for the TSA. A 4:30-9:30 a.m. shift four days a week nets me $800 a month and still leaves LOTS of time to do other stuff!

I work Mon/Wed/Fri 8am-1pm at a small town vet clinic. It works out great for me because I love being with animals and I get a big discount! (lot's of stuff for free too) I have 3 dogs, 3 goats, 2 horses, 7 cats, and 10 chickens at home. The vet used to be a large animal vet before going into cats & dogs so he helps me out with the horses and goats too

Wow guys you sure give me ideas! I have the absolutely worst job for a homesteader. I work four days a week at a factory. Four days ain't so bad you say? They are when its twelve hour shifts at the brake plant. Groan
I betcha I'd be a great dog boarder though. I already have five of my own what's a little more? That would be a great job...hmmm

I am a home health nurse, work per diem, so I ge to decline any shifts that I don't want to take. Right now I care for two patients to get them kick started in the morning and leave at six am, home by ten and make about a hundred plus bucks a day, more if I want more work. I am free to take any 3-11 shifts offered, could probably work that shift full time too if I wanted, but I would have to cut down on the number of animals to do that.

Boy, can I relate wolf, Factory work is at the opposite end of the spectrum from Homesteading, I know the 12 hour shifts too well. My job is so far away, I have too stay over there or the gas cost would kill Me, luckily My mom lives close too My work. So, the only upside, I get Moms cookin' and get too see her regularly, Gotta love Mom! I have seen a few Dog Boarding places pop up, along with those storage buildings for those with too many toys too house all their stuff.I'm flirting with the idea of a portable saw mill, among a couple other ideas.

We both have pretty good homesteading jobs, too.

I run an online business and I substitute teach. In both cases, I choose my hours and working environment.
My husband runs the ranch we live on for an out of state investor. To the extent that weather/livestock/etc. allow it, he also sets his own hours.

We're hoping that one day, after we get our place built, he'll be able to day work around the area. (Basically "subbing," for cowboys.)

I design web sites and do advertising for small businesses. The only problem it's now taking up way too much of my time!
