The dangers of rural commuting..LOL

So here's this guy riding his bike to work in rural land when he crests a hill and finds a 300lb black bear just a few feet in front of him in the road..whoops..no time to avoid a collision..he slams into the bear and the two of them (and the bike) go end over end..

Imagine what that bear was thinking??
" Dang..this area is getting way too crowded!"..

Can you imagine calling in to work and trying to explain why you wouldn't be in that day?

I get nervous riding home from town on my ATV when it gets toward dark. More than once I've had deer run out in front of me. Nothing like buzzing down the road on a nice fall evening with a rack full of groceries and have a big old buck dart out of the ditch right in front of you.

Last year I was riding back up the lane after getting the mail and a yearling ran out from the bushes and dang near ran me over. I wasn't going fast, had the mail in one hand and was just putting up the lane. Mail went flying and I ran off the lane and into a cedar tree. I can't be sure but I think there were probably other deer in the treeline laughing at me. I figured they probably put the younger one up to it.

calling in to work

It was funny trying to explain my "Goose injury" to my co workers in the ER this spring. One of the doc's stitched up my finger that the gander had bitten. My director took me off the schedule until the stitches came out (no way to keep it clean an dry as an ER nurse) She told me it was one of the oddest excuses for an employee missing work that she had every heard!

We haven't had a moose/motorcycle collision out here this year. There's usually at least one and neither make out well.

My regular UPS guy was on vacation. We miss him when he's gone, he's used to us! I had three tom turkeys that loved his truck. It rumbled at them (so they thought) and they rumbled back. I heard the truck pull up but that was it. After a few minutes I went to the porch to see what was happening. The replacement driver wouldn't get out. Tom, Junior and Stupid were in full display, strutting around in the driveway and rumbling back at the truck like normal...if you're used to our normal. He wouldn't get out because he's still being ribbed about being bitten by a goose. "Everyone else has dog reports but I have a goose report. It attacked me." I tried very hard not to laugh.

Can't wait to share this with Nick. I know he's seen deer on his way to work, but no bear on his 15 mile trek to the wilds of Northbrook... LOL!
