Wood stove insert - stainless chimney liner

I have a very nice wood stove insert that is about 22 years old and still in good shape. Just for the heck of it I went to the wood stove store to look at the new stoves as I've heard they are somewhat more efficient.

Surprisingly, I actually found the modern version of my make/model of insert. These new models of course have the secondary burn tubes in them but also have the very small fireboxes that only accept a log crosswise. After much discussion the sales guy admitted that the advertised 12 hour burn time on many new stoves was a bit misleading. He said closer to 8 hours is more realistic, sometimes 6 hours...

$4,598 installed, with tax. Ouch.

So now I'm thinking of keeping the old wood stove and installing a stainless chimney liner. My masonry chimney is in very good condition with zero cracks in the tile, but I thought maybe the liner would improve efficiency somewhat, make cleaning easier, and be safer.

The liner kits look to be about $400.

Has anybody installed one of these liner kits in an older masonary/tile chimney?

How did it go????

Thanks

We did, or actually our woodstove/roofer/chimney crew did, and it works great.

My parents have an insert and my dad just used plain stovepipe to line the chimney. It was much cheaper. . .
