Anyone Know How To Fix A Freeze Split sap tank?

Thats about it, a large split syrup tank with a split right down the side. Can it be repaired somehow?

maybe if you give a lil more info what is it made of, and how long is the split. you might get some ideas how to fix it.

Its not my tank so I have to be somewhat vague. Its a run of the mill Tractor Supply poly tank that is used for collecting maple syrup. I guess from what the guy said it got full of water and freeze split down the side most of the way. He didn't give me a real straight answer but its a long split at least a couple feet long. Thats about all I know. They make some killer sealants like 3M 5200 Marine and Windshield Urethane but I don't think that would be a good idea in contact with food goodies ect. I am sure it could be welded but while nearly all of us around here weld metals plastic is another thing here in the sticks..........

been there done that. My dad poked a hay tine on a loader tractor through one of my sap tanks, then my brother did the same, then my wife poked a reese hitch through one.

I have repaired plastic by cutting a plastic patch from something els, and attaching it to the split with silicone, and short self taping sheetmetal screws.

they make automotive plastic welding kits. Harbor Freight sells one for $35.

The tank is probably polyethylene, which is weldable. You may have to have a mechanical reinforcement.

I have heard of the welders on HF. Still, an though I use their stuff now for some 25 years I have great caution with the Chinese stuff. I haven't as yet seen any reviews of the thing but I think the next step up in those is around $125 if memory serves. Anyways I am glad its his problem and not mine. That is the trouble with plastic, it won't rust but the sun eventually gets to it or it splits and is a pain to fix.
