Freecycle score

Anybody here use Freecycle? It's a yahoo group where people post stuff that they want to give away, or sometimes if they need something they'll ask (and usually not get, but it doesn't hurt to try).

I've gotten many cool free things off of Freecycle. Tonight I picked up a Camelback, which is in brand-new condition, hee hee!

The free section on Craigslist is something I check daily too. I've recently got two truckloads of cut (but not split) firewood, and a truck bed liner off of Craigslist.

Tried it a few years ago, for every offer post, there was 4-500 wanted this posts.

Just resigned up, looks like it's about 4wanted to 1need.

I too have "scored" on freecycle. I have gotten kids clothes and an almost brand new car seat. I have also posted and gotten rid of many things that I didn't have to lug off somewhere else.

Ive given tons of stuff away of freecycle. Its good to clear out things that I wouldnt want to throw away. Before I found freecycle, I would pack things away because there was no point in throwing out something perfectly good. Now when I dont need something it gets freecycled.

Ive also gotten some amazing things on freecycle. The two best thing was a boat and land. No, Im not kidding. Someone owned a lot on Lake of the pines here in TX and had just been paying taxes and hoa fees on it for 5 years and had never been there. Value is around $3K. It was given to them so they just wanted to get it out of their names. Taxes and hoa adds up to $100/year. So, I wrote up a quick deed, met them at a notary and got my free land. Ive been to it, its about a mile from the boat ramp, is all wooded. Ownership gives you access to the community pool, restrooms/shower, trash, boat ramp. Not a bad deal. I plan to put a camper on it one of these days.

As for all the wanted posts, yes there are plenty, and the things people ask for are insane, working motorcycles, laptops, and below is a copy of a message I got this morning from our local freecycle. This person is actually asking for a free house!

i know this is a lot to ask, but I am looking for a home to live in,
does anyone have one not being lived in that needs fixing up or
something? Rent is absoltely killing me being a mother of 2 small kids.

I have been a member of the local Freecycle for a long time. When I moved from a 13 room 2 story Victorian, to the less than 1,000 sq.ft. new place up here - I gave away a lot of household items and furniiture. The latest give away on Freecycle was a 4 port router, for a cable internet modem.

Former scores from Freecycle are all of my candle making supplies - several slabs of parafin and bee's wax, coloring, scents, wicks, metal molds, and the rest of the works. I do give away quite a few candles made from these items (even back to the original donors of the materials). Once a month, I post a Wanted Item for any candle making supplies, and usually get 1 or 2 responses. A lot of them were Grandma's old hobby supplies, and I show that I am appreciative of receiving the items.

Yes there are some outrageous wants posted on Freecycle!!!!!!!

Around here, on the local freecycle offers last about 5 minutes before they are posted as gone. People must have their computers set to signal them whenever something is posted. I don't know how they do it.
