First of all, these were wild grapes. I had no intention of picking them and had been pruning them back all summer to feed the vines to the rabbits. But on a spur of the moment idea, I picked all the grapes that were on the vine. No I didn't add water. Mom said not too, but the recipe in one book about wild foods says you should add a little water. It was just a spur of the moment kind of thing which I may have made a mistake about. The juice doesn't taste bad at all, just very strong and a bit bitter (normal according to my grandma).
I do have another idea though. I have a few handfulls of red currants and enough blackberries to get enough juice to make 1 quart.
I never made grape jelly by myself. I had no idea how many grapes you need to make a quart of juice. Apparently quite a few. I like the idea of a mixed berry jelly much better, as long as it doesn't have raspberry. I hate those.
I guess I'll be freezing the juice then. I have to look in the small freezer to see if I have more currants (could have sworn I had a full bag frozen somewhere) and other assorted berries. If I still don't have enough would I be ok to add cider or do you have to use apple juice?
Now watch, everyone will LOVE the concoction and I will never be able to duplicate it.
