My New Friend Allen

This morning was a great morning. I woke up sore and tired, we moved some poplar logs for our cabin last night, and the smaller top logs for wood stove kindling as well. We used a carriage on the tractor 3 point hitch, but Ya still gotta get 'em on and off!!

I checked my e-mail when I woke up, and was happy to see an e-mail reply 4 hours earlier from my new friend Allen. Allen can only use the computer early in the morning, or later at night when he won't be disturbing his mom. I just met Allen, his wife and children. They are living in a hole in the wall like we did when we first moved to the country, and they are having a rough time finding work. I discussed their situation with my family recently, and It was a good thing!! After I decided to lend Allen some money, two of my sisters scraped up some money for them. They even talked to my cousin who recently moved here from Europe, who was eager to help. I was worried that Allen might spend the money too quickly, and be broke again. I e-mailed the news that their were some more funds available for them, and asked if a gift card from the local Krogers would be ok. I was crossing my fingers that he wouldn't ask for the cash. I was delighted when he wrote that he shops mostly at the Sav-a-lot, but that either would be ok. His Mom had told me when I called yesterday at noon that they were out looking for lumber to finish putting in a window that had been "roughed in", in one of the walls. It looks like he is going to try to make it through the winter in the current location (his mom's modest cottage).

Allen wrote that he and his mom's boyfriend took the cover off of the old well, and found it was 25 feet deep, with clean, cold good tasting water in it. This is great news as the water is turned off at mom's place, and the cost would be 1200 dollars to change that. He also said that he had found some day work, setting up a trailer on blocks, and digging a ditch for a water line.

I just thought that I would share some good news- the world can seem so short of it!

Rick and I discussed this thread before he posted it. We thought it was best to close it right away so this issue isn't rehashed. Please contact Rick, by PM, if you are interested in further information or have a desire to help.

Thanks
