Free Magazines?

NOTE: this is not spam...

The great homesteading magazine threads got me to thinking... I joined a site, no fees or nothing, that sends me offers of free mags about once or twice a month. I had to declare what kind of business I had, in order to qualify. I'm signed up under two different businesses. One of my 'businesses' is a construction firm {Up until recently, my main source of income was remodeling and doing higher end handyman work on homes and homesteads) and my other business is CEO of a Dairy Goat Dairy... (okay, I can hear the snickers or giggles out there...) My GF is actually CBW (Chief Bottle Washer" of our vast dairy goat operation (down to milking five right now, with a dozen due to be milked next year)....

Anywho... I get offers... if I like the mag, I click on the link, it carries me to their site, I have to fill in my name and email, and basically click through six boxes each time, detailing what my business is, if I'm operations, human resources, yada yada yada. Then I'm able to click on the magazine in question... they'll ask if you want some 'trade' mags, on computers, networking, healthcare... basic trade type magazines...

But, in the last couple of years, I've got (please forgive me if I get the names wrong...) a Firearms mag (Shooter?), Horse Illustrated, Trailrider, Horse (somethin), Climbing, Urban Climbing, Electronic House, Electronic Music, Popular photography, Log Cabin Design, Log Cabin Living, Log Cabin ?, Boating, Yachts, Carribean Living, Sailing mags, Flying, Kitplanes, Jet, some Hispanic living mags, Giant, Vibe, and I'm probably forgetting a dozen or so more.

If you're interested, investigate it yourself. The general link to the site is http://www.freebizmag.com/

Warning! If you sign up for the trade type magazines, when you're subscription is over, they'll ask if you want to renew, and if you give a phone number they'll call you, and usually verify that your information is still accurate.

You will get renewal cards for all magazines you sign up for... but since you've never given any cc# or other financial info, you can throw the renewals in the firestarter box, w/o worrying about some automatic charging. I've found that the goodie mags, such as the log cabin mags are offered about once a year anyway, so there's no need to worry about losing a sub...

If you like magazines, and you like free, you might want to investigate...

Trust me... I haven't been on this site for several years, and had >3K posts, building up trust, just to spring my Evil Spam Spawn on ya'll....Bwahahahahaa haa hack cough coughhhhh ... Okay, I'm better.

Anyone know of other sites?

edited to add: if you go to the site, odds are there'll be nothing good there... but if you sign up for the site, they'll end up sending emails when you the goodies arrive... just went into the site and there are no goodies...

I do the one you posted and I also do valuemags.com and mercurymagazines.com, both of which send you email alerts with a link when free mags are available.

And I'm on a number of freebie mailing lists, which send out links to yet more magazines.

I don't sign up to most mags, because I have no use for them. But I sign up for the ones that me and/or my mother will actually read, and/or that have good food coupons.

Woman's Day puts out so many free links to subscribe, that I keep adding another free year to the subscription I do for my mother, and so far it doesn't expire until 2012! By next year it might be up to 2015 LOL.

After reading, I donate them to the homeless mission and to disabled and elderly shutins. They love me for that!

Way back when, I did all the freebie/coupon/shopping sites daily and had free mags coming to me, my family, my workplace, etc. I even had to put up a bigger mailbox here at home to handle all of it. My mailcarrier told DH that we were his biggest customers. But it just got to be too much to deal with. I was carting mags all over town and giving to the medical and church groups. When my health failed, I just couldn't do that anymore.

But it does work. All of those magazines were free and I never paid a penny for any of them. I remember reading somewhere online that the magazines have to meet a certain quota each month to stay in business, and if that means some are free subscriptions, then free it is.

My understanding is, the larger their subscription base, the more advertising revenues they bring in.

So it's very cost-effective for them to give away free subscriptions.

Ah! I always wondered how they could afford to give away subscriptions. That certainly makes sense.

Not magazines but here is a site called Free After Rebate http://www.freeafterrebate.info/ You really have to watch the shipping & HANDLING costs and also the expiration date of the offers. Otherwise some good items from time to time.

I used to get free magazines from freebizmag several years ago and never encountered any problems or crazy spam. I don't get them anymore because I've given up paper just about anywhere I can.

If you're interested in free after rebate deals and such, check out fatwallet.com and slickdeals.net. I have gotten many very good deals from scanning those sites once a day. Not so much the free after rebate stuff but just getting alerted to sales and special deals. Most recently was 5 qts of Valvoline synthetic oil (regulary 4.79/qt) and a Bosch filter for $20 and then $10 rebate for a final cost of $10. Best deal I can recall getting turned on to from there was a free 3rd generation 4gb Ipod Nano just for opening a checking account online and making 2 ACH transfers. Total cost to me - $0. In fact, that bank, Key Bank, has a similar deal going on right now. I also get an average of 1 free sample in the mail every single day from those 2 sites. It's a bit tricky how I do it, first opt'ing out of the marketing databases so I don't get a bunch of junk mail along with it, and then using a pseudo-name to sign up for them and finally attaching a "suite #" to my address to keep it all separate if a database was to get ahold of it. Sounds complicated but really it isn't once you're all set up.

Anyway, what I really wanted to add was this - http://www.mygazines.com/ Many popular magazines, and some not so common scanned and on the net for free. It's fairly new so expect it to expand over time. They already have quite a collection and current issues of many popular magazines.

Many of the magazines I used to get from freebizmag were trade and business related. For renewals, they never asked for money but rather just had a short survey to fill out if you wanted to renew another year for free. I never gave them my phone number.

I used to do daily deals on mycoupons.com and have to say the best deal was the ToysRUs sale where I got these huge stuffed animals for a $1 each with free shipping. There were sure some funny looks from passing traffic here when they delivered. I had 10 huge boxes on my front porch and couldn't see the front door, much less open it. But it was worth every penny and trouble because there were 10 really happy children that Christmas. I used to donate almost everything I bought to the local AngelTree project or the Community Closet.

On the magazine subscriptions, I never ever gave a telephone or cc #. Some would send renewal notices, but I always shredded those. I used to get lots of really good magazines for free back in the late 90s and up to 2004. I still receive one free mag from way back then - LINKS - it's a golf magazine. I really liked Better Homes & Gardens myself.

I haven't checked the mycoupons site in a long time. There were forum issues that I just got tired of listening to.

Try www.adperk.com for free subscriptions. I just "earned" a free subscription to Field and Stream by watching some ad videos. It was fun!
