Do you get receipts when buying used farm supplies/materials?

Lets say you buy a bunch of farm fencing from somebody off craigslist. Do you ask for a receipt from the private party for tax record purposes? (Farm Expenses)
Anybody refuse to give you a receipt?

If you wanted a receipt from me, for tax purposes, with my name on it, and you planned on reporting it, I'd probably have to charge more, or not go through with the sale. I'd just soon Uncle Sam not have both hands in my pocket. If you want me to write nickname, or a fictitious name, sure, no problem... A bill of sale, with no price, no problem... but a named price, that might further involve me in IRS audits............ it's not worth it.

I've been audited the last three years. This last tax year, after spending weeks poring over my records, and correcting numerous entries, the IRS ended up owing me .50c.... but I spent thirty or forty hours of my time...

So, selling some junk on craigslist, and a possibility of more IRS BS, nope, sorry.

Reciept or no

If you are going to deduct it from your income for the IRS you sure better, if it happens to have a problem and the sheriff shows up at the door it will sure be better to have a reciept showing you bought it. If the person does not want to give a reciept, no fake name, no fake address, I really do not want the item. If it is to evade income tax I do not want to be a co conspirator. If it was stolen I sure do not want it because I have to think how I would feel if it had been stolen from me. Buying something that is stolen at a really good bargin price means to me you should have known something was wrong but you did it anyway. That makes you a thief in my book.

Lots of people make out fake receipts with fake names and such just to cover their tax and legal bases just in case. Not me of course but I know people do.
