Heat tapes and wood ?

I want to run a temp. water line for this winter with heat tape on it. However it must lay on a wooden deck.
I was told it would be a fire hazard to do so.
I have heat tapes on other pipes and never seemed like they got that hot to ignite wood.

I would rather be safe than sorry so would apprecaite your views on this.

Thanks

you can get the heat tapes which go inside of the water line. With the water around it and the pipe there is no way it would get hot enough to ignite wood.

I would think if it was hot enough to ignite wood it would boil the water to steam.

We used the heat tape against rock, or around pipes in a dirt and rock crawl space, never next to or touching wood. Please be careful. ldc

Thanks for your replies.

Would there be anyway I could set something under it? Like a bridge type thing..like a sheet of metal? That way air would be between the metal and the wood deck.
Yes I am kinda grasping at straws here as this is the shortest way to get it to where its supposed to go and use what I have on hand.

I will have to figure something else out then or just keep hauling the water.

I hadn't heard about the one that goes inside. I will have to check that out next time I am in town. Thanks Paw for that idea.

Again thanks to all for your help.
