Can You See Me?

And what am I?

Found hiding near the horse barn:

And a close-up:

Does anyone know what kind this is? We normally have lots of them around, but always have been in varying shades of brown. This is the first green one I've ever seen.

This one was also huge in comparison, a good 3 1/2" in length! My pictures don't do him justice, he was a really brilliant green.

Thanks for the name! I did a quick search and found more info on them, if anyone is into moths:

Note quite a ways down the page the size of the caterpillar in the person's hand? Whoa, a biggie! Pretty neat looking, too! My son still prefers to call him the "army moth".

No, not poison ivy, it's got five leaves and not the typical red stem bit....I think this would be that manitoba maple perhaps. Our county is full of these sucker bushes that turn into quasi trees.

Edited to add: yep, definitely a manitoba maple:

Guess maybe some trimming there is in order.....did you see the burrs? LOL

once you get the bushes down at goatie level they can keep them cleaned up! mowed a bunch off the side of the lane last year and low and behold! they are six foot tall now! we keep some burrs growing in the flower garden just to remind us of all the grand times we had combing them out of dogs coats! (usually the night just before a major show! either that or they would find a skunk!)

Sadly, they're not where the goats can get them, it's on the far side of the barn. You think the goats will eat them? I'll toss the bush over the fence for them. They do look pretty in some pictures, though, too bad they can be such a menace!

Yeah, we get some really big ones out in the back field, well over my head! Same with the stinging nettles. There's a bush of that out there that I swear is close to 7 feet tall! I've never seen it that high before. Just one clump, all growing in a maybe ten foot round spot.

I know some people eat nettle, the boiling kills the sting, but I just can't get past the stinging part. LOL
