Helpful Hints for TX Veterans Land Board

1) Before you apply for a land loan thru the Texas Veterans Land Board make sure you have lots of time on your hands. Like MONTHS!

2) Be sure to have tractor trailer loads worth of PATIENCE and PERSISTENCE!

If you do not have the above mentioned items in hand DO NOT BOTHER! You will be insane before you actually close. Or at least have a nervous twitch.

I could write a book about the trials and tribulations of the past 5 months that it has taken for us to get a closing date on the property we have found. I'm probably jinxing it even posting about it but hopefully we will not have anymore "hiccups" that would cause the closing date to be changed.

I must say that if you want to find the most annoying, sadistic, got playing dumb-down-pat people-because there is no way anyone would hire someone that stupid.....oh wait I'm talking about the goverment.....nevermind.....just try applying for a Texas Veterans Land Loan!

Sorry I just had to get that out. I'll feel better when we close.

Do they have a sweeter deal than other lenders, or are they lenders of last resort? I assume they'd have to be one or the other, or you wouldn't be going thru all of the hassles.

My Dad wanted to do this by using his veterans benefits. The intrest is lower than he could get with other lenders and you get some sort of tax break/discount on the property taxes if you use the Texas Veterans Land Loan to finance with.

We could have gone with another lender but Dad can be stubborn when it comes to his veteran's benefits. "I served two tours in Vietnam by God I'm going to use them!" as he says. Which I don't blame him one bit.

So we stuck to our guns and will be closing on Friday. I hope!
