T. Boone Pikens...thoughts anyone?
I saw his commercials and was a bit stunned. What does he really want? What is this guy up to? Wondering if anyone has any thoughts or insights.

T. Boone use to be a scoundrel... buying small oil/gas companies that really didn't want to be sold...
In the current situation, he's right. Texas has become #1 in wind turbine energy... there's a Wind Boom going on right now... and T. B. is in the middle of it. We can't drill our way out of this mess... there's no shortage of oil... it just costs a lot... drilling won't affect the price drastically. EVEN if it did, it's just putting off the inevitable... When our last sources of oil are gone (Bakken, Haynesville, and the shales in WV/PA), there'll be no more in the U.S. The price will only get higher...
Put up a wind genny, and it's not depleting any irreplaceable resources.

I'm reserving judgment - I don't trust him.

I completely agree with Texican.
Peak oil does not mean that the world will actually run out of oil. Some oil will always remain in the ground. The problem is that petroleum is a limited resource, and oil production always follows a bell curve, with a peak and then an inevitable drop-off. Wind goes on forever.

This will give you a number of cites on his energy plan.
I would say the next president would do far worse than making him Secretary of Energy with a great deal of latitude in dealing with Congress.
Many people only associate petroleum with fuel. However, it has a significant part of play in almost all consumer products.

He may or may not be correct in this. But one thing is for absolute certain, he ain't doing it out of the goodness of his heart. You can bet he has a way figured out to line his already deep pockets even more.

I think he has a kind of "rags to riches" kind of story and he is a huge benefactor for OKlahoma State because it opened its doors to him as a student when several other colleges wouldn't.
Considereing all of the other politicians babbling on these days, if he is a scoundrel, he at least makes sense. He at least is actually putting out solid ideas and not just vaguely babbling on about how we need to do something.
Somebody has to get the ball rolling.......the trail wreck is coming.......

I figured that. But regardless of the motives, at least somebody is doing something and not just talking about it!

Who cares? If it helps everyone else and he makes money, too, I'm sure not going to stand there and take him to task. I think what he's doing is great.

The man ain't no dummy! I like his idea, nobody can take the wind away from us, or the sun either.

What difference does it make if he is invested in alternate energy? The current administration is heavily invested in oil...

My best guess is that he plans to get the state or the feds to pay for the transmission lines for his privatized company.
But I'm with Ladycat. At least he is doing something.
When the leading oil guy tells you we can't drill our way out of this energy crisis, maybe more people will listen. I realize Al Gore and other dreaded liberals are not a good messenger for many people. It does not make their message any less true.

I do not mind if he makes some money. Let's just do something that will help stop the Nation. from sending all our oil money to people that hate us.

Pickens has been a visionary for years, yes, he's made a lot of money on oil, and Natural gas, but unlike most of the big oil people, he wants what's best for America. Every word of the ad rings true, we are sending our wealth as a nation to the middle east, and it is the greatest transfer of wealth in history. Buy a hundred dollars of gas, drive all day, there is nothing at all left of it. it's gone, and your money is too. He is 80 years old and has already made his mark. T Boone Pickens is a rare man...one who actually wants whats best for America. I've followed his career since he had the nerve to try to take over Gulf oil company in the early 80's. Gulf oil offered to bribe him(greenmail) to go away, but he refused, holding out instead for ALL shareholders to get the same as he was being offered. T Boone Pickens is greatly responsible for your knowing that you are an owner of any company you have stock in. Seems pretty simple today. Pickens and his "corporate raids" made money for stockholders over and over, huge corruptly ran companies had to toe the line, the real owners were the stockholders, not the board of directors. He formed a group for shareholders rights, published a list of companies who were more interested in fortunes of the board of directors rather than shareholders. His activities in this area resulted in the SEC approving the "one share, one vote" rule that says all shares are equal, the shareholders own the company. That particular ruling was struck down a few years later by the court of appeals, but was replaced by another ruling very similar, to keep companies from doing anything to restrict or reduce the voting right of the common stockholders. The T Boone Pickens story should be subtitled "An American Biography" He's putting his money and his place in history on the line here. When he says its raining day old fish, don't bother looking out the window, or wondering what he has to gain by it. Get out your heavy duty umbrella and thickest overshoes.

Agree..he will be making $$'s
Agree...his idea will; would; and does work
Agree...he is trying to get all politicans invovled
Agree & know first hand Texas has lots of wind 24/7's yearly; right now it is so hot and windy the water in my hot tub is as hot as any bath water with NO heater going...it will be this hot allday and might drop a couple degrees after dark..
However; the costs of the wind towers is expensive; much more than oridiany families can afford..who is going to get the energies from this method and just how much will it cost any of us...it will not be free or cheaper...you can be assure of that...probably the cost or higher than electrical energy as we know it today...
There is still lots of oil in Texas...oil wells and gas wells popping up all around the area i'm in...I just keep praying they will hurry up and move onto my properties...
How much is gasoline costing ya guys today...here in Central Texas (between Waco & College Station) $3.78 - 3.75...not all stations, but has been over 7 days at the ones that are selling at this price...Good Lord only knows for how long but , very thankful for every day..since everything around me is 25 - 65 miles away..
Pay the Lord back tomorrow....
